mj (4971), Colorado, USA Apr 24, 2006 Muddy light brown colored body, slightly murky. Funky nose with some semi-scipy notes and some biscuit scents as well. I liked this very much but ultimately it’s a forgettable beer. The chocolate was a bit difficult to pick up, but the cinnamon-like spices were certainly there. Smooth palate. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Apr 21, 2006 Color is a glowing brown with yellow contrast. Nearly opaque and full of haze and sediment. Head was a thick white cream topping that sticked around for longer than expected. Aroma is mild with not a lot of smell picked up. What does come across is a weak olfaction of yeast and spice. The flavor has started to deteriorate and loose its essential flavors leaving me with faded saison. Light touch of chocolate, yeast and just the slightest dash of spice and ginger. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 10, 2006 Turbid ornagy pour, with a lot of carbonation and a 3-finger, off-white head. The aroma is bready malty and creamy, with solid fruity and florally spicy components. The flavor gets even more floral, spicy, and a little funky as it warms, with fruit throughout. It gets drier as it warms, and the repour is loaded with sediment. I didn’t get any chocolate in this, but it was very complex and very enjoyable. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 9, 2006 Imported 750. 2005. The house character is here, but it’s definitely not as intensely complex as regular Fantome. Beer pours a murky light amber with a large, white, slowly diminishing and mostly lasting head. The aroma is malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, light notes of caramel and cookie; hoppy with a light notes of lemon and herbs; Yeasty with moderately-heavy funky notes of basement, barnyard, horseblanket, perhaps a teeny tiny trace of band-aid tucked somewhere in the back; Moderate notes of spicy alcohol, orange zest. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, lightly acidic with a long, lightly warm, lightly bittersweet finish. The body is light-to-medium, the texture is watery and the carbonation is lively. SoLan (1367), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 28, 2006 Lot B. Best by ’07. Pleasantly ugly light brown. Nicely formed, frothy, off white head. Spicy, funky fantome nose in tha hizzy. Subtle chocolate, vinegared dark fruit, grainy malt, and crisp hops, also representin. The funk is its own reward. Classic fantome soul. Crisply balanced malt and hops and straight up, barnyard funk yeast hold it down with bonus cuts of sweet chocolate and dark fruit. Finishes dry and a bit sour. Very nice. Balanced, medium body. Where’d you get that funk from? This funk is not domestically produced. Reprogram. ratman197 (3135), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 23, 2006 750 ml bottle pored a clear rusty orange with a small, but lingering white head. Aromas of apples, spice, apricot, pepper and just the fainest hint of cocoa after repeated sniffings. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of light fruit, pepper, cinnamon and just a hint of cocoa at the end with a crisp, lingering finish. macbar (30), Italy Mar 18, 2006 finish flavour acidic medium, body medium, well balanced, finish fell astringed ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Mar 10, 2006 Cloudy amber body with a large head. I can finally start to pick up the Fantome house character in the nose and on the tongue. With that the aroma has notes of pepper, fruits, maybe a vague hint of cocoa... it’s really hard to tell. Light bitterness as well. I was expecting a wacky chocolate saison from Fantome, instead it’s a plain (by Fantome standards) and less assertive with MAYBE a light hint of chocolate. I can’t see myself coming back with so many better options.
