ericandersnavy (1038), crossroads, Texas, USA Jun 16, 2009 bottle thanks to blutt59. poured a hazy gold with a nice white head. aroma of cinnamon, tart, body odor, and peppers. flavor was the same. just not sure i like peppers brewed with my beers. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 16, 2009 Bottle hauled back from West Lakeview. Pours caramel in color, almost like sandstone, with a trim white head. Highly acidic. Dear Lord, this smells like stomach acid. Really had a hard time drinking this one after I made that association. The chocolate is MIA. I get that this is cocoa, but there is virtually no sweetness present at all. The chili pepper is discernable in the flavor, but doesn’t really add much. Tastes watered down and just plain bland. Ay, Caramba! ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Jun 15, 2009 Bottle graciously shared by nbutler11 at a recent non-epic. I was teasing him while corking about how I didn’t want another Theobroma disappointment in terms of cacao use. Then this happened. Nose of tart seed, yeast. Flavor is that hollow underripe apple, anemic spice of Theobroma - the kind that hints at chocolate but ISN’T. Tart, abrupt finish. Really unsophisticated beer after a Grand Slam from the same Brasserie. Baffling. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 12, 2009 bottle, thick orange color with bubbly foam, aroma of peppery funk and sweaty bo, flavor is better mix of funk, spicey peppers, clover, wet grass and some fruits JohnnyJ (1282), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 7, 2009 Pours a dirty orange color, with white head. Not a whole lot of chocolate in this. Lemon zest, yeast, bread, spice, slight sourness, grass, and small hints of cocoa and very very slight heat. The neame and description do not describe the flavors very accurately. Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Jun 4, 2009 Bottle shared by plovmand.
Pours an hazy yellow colour with a white quickly vanishing head.
Aroma is quite sour and with lots of yeast.
The flavour is lemon, citrus, a little fruity, yeast, hay, dust and is very carbonated.
Tweety (336), Vancouver, Washington, USA Jun 3, 2009 What a terribly misleading name! I get no chocolate whatsoever in the flavor or aroma...maybe a LITTLE BIT when it warms up a bunch. In general tho, it’s got the pleasant spicy funkiness that you usually get from a good Belgian Saison. I’d rather have DuPont. hallinghansen (263), Odense SV, Denmark May 28, 2009 Bottle shared by Plovmand. Hazy yellow body with a small white head. Aroma is sour, yeast and spices. Flavor is sour, dust and citrus. No chocolate at all, wierd. I was a bit dissapointed.
