A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

bottle by Aaaron, thank you sir! .. . pours a dirty tan .. .head and lacing are quite good .. . interesting tartness- light funk, chilli skin, and light coco powder .. . like most fantomes, odd and delicious! .. . . Big deal. A suitcase full of monopoly money.

20-OCT-2012, bottle @Ulkløbben, @Ole. Hazy orange with high lasting off-white head. Tart, fruity with peach, wet cardboard, dust. While it does have some fruity notes, it is certainly too old or otherwise infected. No chocolate, mostly unclean notes.

Bottle. Notes of soft musty perfume, pears, bubble gum ans a soft chili pepper smoke. dusty doughy sourbread. Nice body and look. Seems nice enough.

750mL bottle, courtesy of julian, pours a clear golden orange with a big white head. Aroma is quite muted and murky, with notes of chili and ash. Flavour is like an ashtray, very tobacco-like - I don’t get any chili or cocoa - perhaps this is past its prime. This is quite repulsive and undrinkable, with lots of smoky ashtray notes dominating. Nasty as is.

Bottle from Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Yellow, hazy beer with a big white head. Malty, fruity, spicy, citrus and sourish aroma with some cocoa notes. Sourish, chili, fruity and citrus flavour.

Old bottle from Brouwer’s. Pours darker blond, clear, finger white head, some carbonation. Smell is grainy lagerish, wet hay, slight coco nibs. Taste subtle, chalky coco, grain and farmhouse funk. Earth and dirt, not tart. Pretty amazing drinkability. As it warms up, more coco comes out, and herby smell, more saison crisp wheat. Becomes like chocolate milk that is still beer. The chocolate is not the dominating flavor, it accentuates the saison barnyard qualities. Really good.

Bottle from Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Hazy yellow beer with a rich white head that leaves quite quickly. Malty aroma, spices, roasted, cocoa notes, fruity, pepper, yeast, bready notes, earthy and some citrus. Pepper flavor, grass, fruit, some yeast, citrus and notes of cocoa, turning into a sharp pepper finish. Not like other beers, but kinda interesting.

Bottle, 75 cl. Cloudy orange with a huge, foamy, slowly diminishing white head. Impressive aroma of peppery yeast, citrus, orange peel, light brett. Sweet zesty juice taste with a surprising smokey note, that I didn’t catch in the nose - very smooth, very elegant, very crisp and drinkable. With a mild bitter finish. Extremely wellbalanced. but no evidence of chocolate!

Countbeer (2858) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUN 17, 2012
Bottle: Small vast white head disappears slow on top of a hazy orange colored beer. Smell pils malts, chocolate malts, spices, oatmeal, grains, herbs. Actually this smells pretty regular. Taste spices, pils malts, chocolate malts, barleys malts, some hints of candy sweetness but more sour than sweet, yeast, champagne. Aftertaste of hop soap grains, yeast malts and herbs. Low to medium carbo, soft tingly mouthfeel, medium body and a light creamy texture. Nothing really special but decent balanced.
