COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Bottle. Hazy pale yellow colour with a thin head. Aroma and taste of yeasty, citrus and fruits with notes of lambic. The chili was hardly noticeable.

750mL. Pours a hazy light orange with a massive, rocky, white head that has great retention and awesome lacing. Aroma is white wine, white chocolate, sweet candies, lemon sorbet. Taste is tart, a bit salty, sweaty, funky, with lemonade, light citrus, some metallic notes. I don’t get any chilis or cocoa unfortunately. Light-bodied. Pretty fun saison.

Pours a cloudy yellow. Interesting ale. The chili pepper completely overpowers the chocolate. It’s quite good though.

2008 Bottle sampled 5/1/2010.

There are really no two ways about it. I’m Fantôme’s thirsty little bitch. Every time I convince myself that my real love are the unadulterated saisons in the Dupont vein, I bust open a Fantome without high hopes and then get blown away yet again.

Relatively light hazy-yellow pour; this one has more chili than chocolate in the nose atop the classic Fantôme yeast. Lemon and wet earth in the flavor, hints of both the pepper and the chocolate, but only faint hints. No, this one is driven by the malts and yeast. It’s glorious, and the 750 is gone before I know what happened. I haven’t heard the chocolat praised highly amonst Fantôme beers, but in my opinion its certainly up here.

750mL bottle. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a thin head. Aroma is yeasty and dusty, after it warmed up a bit the chili pepper comes through in the nose a bit. Almost tastes like a standard saison, with dry lemony citrus, some barnyard, and a touch of brett. The chili comes through a little bit in the finish as well some old orange peel. Hard to find much chocolate.

Bottle, 750 mL. Pours straw-yellow with a white head. Hazy with a lot of little islands and nice lacing. Smell is strong Belgian saison-funk and grass at first, but the smell dies down the longer it’s exposed to the air. Taste is very spicy and peppery, a nice saison. Easy to drink, I enjoyed it.

Picked this up at Fantome, during a Belgian beer trip with SkyCop32....we met Dany and found him to be quire eccentric. Shared this w/SkyCop32. The flavor is very different and interesting. It has an overall sweet flavor, though not overpoweringly, while hop bitterness is also quite apparent. Both the chocolate and the chili flavors are subtle, being most noticable in the finish.

750ml corked bottle bought at Ølbutikken and shared at Skinnyviking’s place nearby. Noisy and smoky when opened. Long lived, white tophead over a pale orange coloured body. Spicy fruits to the nose. Sweet taste of dried fruits, the chocolate part is hard to detect, maybe some faint notes of spiced cocoa behind. Masked alcohol and quite easy to drink. Not distinctive enough for a higher score (Copenhagen, 27.03.2010).

Bottle. Medium, high fluffy white lasting head. Clear amber body. Fruity mild honey aroma and flavor with a fair amount of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long sweet aftertaste. Can see from the description above that cocoa and chilli should be there. Sorry mates could neither smell nor taste it.

Bottle from Cracked Kettle, recommendation of Iep. Murky orange body with little, fuzzy head. Nose of orange and chili pepper. Taste of oranges, orange peel. Quite spicy with the chilies in full effect. Chocolate taste much more subdued - too bad - but can taste it a bit later in. Smooth and spicy.
