COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

750 ml bottle split with my wife. Poured into a tulip glass. a: amber with a foamy bubbly head with ok retention. The head was about 1" high. Reduces to lacing s: slightly sour smell, mixed with ever so slight citrus. t: fairly complex beer, surprisingly the most dominated flavor is citrus. There is a light note of pepper... which in my mind almost acts like the bittering substance. Not much cocoa, slightly disapointing.

Bottle from Rehills of Jesmond. Pours a slightly hazy straw colour with a big frothy white head. The aroma is rustic with farmy notes and citrus. It makes me a little apprehensive about how chocolate and chilli are going to work with this style of beer. The taste is pretty interesting. There’s a lot of carbonations so your hit with a big mouthful at first with spice and sour earthy flavours. Nice and refreshing. I can’t say chilli and chocolate flavours come through particularly strongly, but that may be a good thing. A little heat in the aftertaste is as much as I could detect. Overall a very enjoyable beer.

Bottle from Belgian e-shop Amazing brew, Not as good and complex as the breweries Saison but amazing non the less. Aroma is sweet, fruity, notes of funk, spices, hint of fruity esters very complex. Hazy orange with dark amber tints color. White lasting head. Alcohol shoes more than in the Saison of Fantome Brewery. Very nice taste, sour, sweet, you can imagine chocolate but I wouldn’t if I didn’t know... Nice dry and long finish, medium body with medium carbonation.

Poured a huge head quick was partly rocky, partly creamy and partly frothy, white and mostly lasting. Body is hazy yellow orange with medium particles and sparkles visible. Aroma contains moderate malts (grain, molasses, milk chocolate), moderate hops (flowers, perfume, pine, orange, lemon), light yeasts (dough, leather) and banana, apple, cherry, cassis, vanilla, forest fruits and spices. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and light sweet, followed by light acidic and light bitter and finishing in bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. A decent Saison with hints of chocolate and spices that make a nice addition. Not a ’chocolate’ beer, though
