COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Tasted on 12/16/12 from a capped and corked bottle purchased at Sergio’s. Pours cloudy light yellow with a thin white head that leaves average, lasting white lace. The nose is barnyard and funk, like most Fantome beers, but the chocolate is more or less non-existent...I suppose that there is a cocoa tinge on the nose as the beer warms, but I know I am looking for it at this point. There is a very lightly spicy chili aroma stinging my nostrils, however. The flavor is pretty much the same, lightly tart with plenty of barnyard, but no real chocolate and just a touch of chili. The body is light with lively carbonation and a long tart, funky, and very lightly spicy chili finish. This is a solid Fantome brew, but it pretty much just tastes like the regular saison.

Refreshing citrusy aroma. The taste is similar with some spices. I can not feel any chocolate or chili, what so ever. Dry finish with some bitterness.

Bottle, De Molen Store. Shared with Slothez, Superbowl Session. Murky dark amber pour with a fading white head. Aroma had notes of funk, citrus, chocolate and yeast. Taste had some nice tart sourness mingled with some earthy notes, fruits and chili pepper. The chocolate factor isn’t especially noticeable. Some drying bitterness developed towards the end. Charmingly drinkable beer from a brewer who isn’t afraid to go against the grain. Seems a tad underrated.

Bottle, ages ago, from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. This is weird stuff. I’ve never seen a beer pour from the bottle like this before. It has a gloopy, syrupy thing going on, with lumps of yeast dropping to the bottom of the glass, then rising en masse, to form a glossy topped, sticky, syrupy head. It’s like fizzy motor oil. The liquid itself is thick, too. If you spilt a glass of this, you’d be able to go and fetch a cloth, before it hit the floor. What does it taste like? Like a Fantome. It doesn’t matter. Can’t think beyond the gloop...

Bottle at home. Quite sweet and fruity, tart, light burn from the chili, don’t get the cocoa.

75 cl. bottle poured in to a Tulip. Hazy, golden-amber with a big, dense white head. Fruity aroma with earthy yeasts, a discrete burn from chili peppers, maturing fruits, light cocoa, pale malts and a pepper note. Taste is bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and a lively carbonation. Finishes bitter and dry with fruits, earthy yeasts, spices and light chillies. Complex, bitter. Good.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2014 Pours a deep amber colour, with a thick, clean white head. Aroma is fruity (peach, hints of banana), peppery and earthy, not too strong overall. No sign of cocoa, even if warmed up a little bit. Taste is somewhat rustic and wonderfully balances a little sweetness upfront with dry bitterness. Medium bodied with a pleasant, soft fizziness. I could also feel a light numbing sensation on the tongue, similar to the one produced by spicy food, but without the actual taste of chili pepper.
