Commercial Description:
A Belgian ’saison-style’ ale brewed with cocoa powder and chili pepper? Ay, Caramba! Score another first for the unpredictable brewery that was the first -- and so far the only - brewery to make ales out of dandelions and mushrooms, among other things.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours a cloudy amber with off-white head. Aroma of citrus, funk, some nice spice. Flavor is citrus, acid, some funk, faint tart. Mouth feel is medium body with high fizzy carbonation. Overall, pretty good shit!!!!!!!

Bottle as an xmas gift. opaque orange pour with white head that settles atop. Aroma is yeasty and funky with some underlying spice. Flavor has strong yeast, some sweaty funk, and a light pepper burn. Notes of sourdough, citrus, lemongrass. Some brett too. Really nice mouthfeel. Finishes with a bit of chili pepper.

What a terribly misleading name! I get no chocolate whatsoever in the flavor or aroma...maybe a LITTLE BIT when it warms up a bunch. In general tho, it’s got the pleasant spicy funkiness that you usually get from a good Belgian Saison. I’d rather have DuPont.

This beer was very odd in concept but really came together very nicely. Pours cloudy and muddy. The cocoa powder taste added a nice sweetness up front that was dried out further by the beer, then kicked off by a faint spiciness in the finish from the chili. The taste was a bit unusual at first, kinda reminded me of some hippie herbal store smell, but after a few sips it really grew on me and by the end of the bottle I was wishing I had another bottle.

Interesting beer. Deep and richly orange and very cloudy. Medium body; nice texture with a fitting level of carbonation. Spicy-orange nose with fresh yeast. Sweet malts, with a burst of chocolate and cookie dough up front (overall, cocoa flavors/aromas are subtle and in the background). Sweetness fades away quickly into a snappy bitterness, which then transforms into zippy pepper notes that follow through into the finish and aftertaste. Drying and a little hot. Lesser notes of citrus (orange, lemon) and spices (grassy and clove-like). Odd combo of ingredients on paper but, surprisingly enough, they somehow seem to get along.

A mighty thanks to Hopscotch for supplying me with this saison. Pours copper / orange that is quite hazy with a somewhat fizzy tan head. The aroma is grainy and citrusy with funky yeast, hot pepper and a hint of cocoa. Medium / thin body that is crisp and a bit grainy with mild sharp carbonation. The flavor starts smooth with some dark grain tastes, citric acid, notes of pineapple and a hint of cocoa. The finish adds some sharpness and pepper. The alcohol is completely hidden in this. A decent saison I’d gladly have again.

Bottle Amber, muddy body. Bitter aroma of hops, yeast, spices, vanilla, cognac, ... quite nice, complex and well balanced. Moderately bitter, moderately sour flavour (floral). Very complex flavour with a good balance.
