COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A very dark and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer, at a whopping 10% alc. by volume. Reportedly spiced with honey, caramel, coriander, black pepper, and other secret ingredients. The alcohol content probably goes a long way toward explaining that very warm and satisfied feeling one finds on the very first sip. A rich, dark-flavored beer with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain. The wild yeast sourness also adds to its welcoming character.

2013 bottle, so about a year old. Murky dark nutty brown with a big complex aroma of dry leafy lupilin hops with dark malty notes and a bit of earthy sweet roast. The flavor is much the same. There’s a predominant leafiness with a dark malty undertone that still lets a lot of the hops come through. Tasty once you get used to it. Like a hoppy holiday Warmer. Kinda nice and balanced and leafy.

Bottle. Pours cloudy orange amber with one finger beige creamy head. Aroma is lager’ish at first?! Lot of wheat, malts, peppery, some dark fruits and slight toast. Got some funk too. Taste is sweet, bready, dried burnt dark fruits in alcohol, molasses. Full creamy body with peppery finish, some toast. Moore boozy as I warms. Reminds me of a mix of aventinus and avec les bons væux.

average frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. hazy thick dark amber body. aroma: nutmeg, honey, citrus orange, alcohol. if: heavy bitter. ff: heavy bitter light sweet. palate: oily/dry texture, medium body, medium carbonation, metallic moderate alcoholic finish. 120s

Bottle to glass. Pours a slightly hazy light amber color with a light tan head. Aroma is a funky sweet, light tart, chocolate. Flavor is similar, touch of chocolate, fruity sweetness. Medium body. Not quite the normal saison I’m used to, but still tasty.

Bottle. Belgiuminabox. Cloudy, orangey amber. Film of white head. Toffee malts. Peppery spice. Ripe orange. Some spicy, dried herb. Very Fantome. Something like cinnamon, or nutmeg, or both in there. At the back of that, there’s a marzipan sweetness. Taste is sweet, then light dry. Light sourness, and light funkiness adds extra dimensions. Finishes bitter, dry, and light sour. Lovely.

November 17, 2014. Bottle at home. Pours red with a large and very frothy white head that quickly dissipates, leaving a small tiny ring. Aroma is caramel, orange, coriander, banana and clove. Taste is light sweet malty and candy sugar, light tart notes (resembling lingon berries), dry spicy bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation.

Bottle. Dark beer, with a spicey aroma. Dry taste, with a taste of grassy yeast, forest herbs and some malt. Has too much alcohol, that wouldn’t be a problem if it’s hidden in the taste, but this doesn’t manage to do so. Still, an interesting beer.
