JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia Jan 4, 2006 2001 Vintage, brought over by my great friend jgb9348. Dark cranberry colored body with an everlasting, but not too thick eggshell/light brown head. Excellent lacing. Smells sweet and sour, with honey, nuts, malt, toffee .Taste is big and strong, with lemon, coriander, coffee, pepper. Tart, not too sweet malt, some winter spices and faint cognac. Superb beer. Thanks jer mabjork (580), Vasa, Finland Jan 3, 2006 Bottled. Dark brown with a brown head.
It has a fruity aroma. The flavour is sweet and spicy, I can’t really describe it in a better way.
The more I drank of this beer the better it became, strange indeed. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jan 3, 2006 Good winter beer for the season. Had the spice and ginger aromas that are typical of christmas beers. Brown body with tan head. Flavor was creamy sweet malt along with some spice notes. Smooth enjoyable beer. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jan 1, 2006 As Forrest Gump once almost said, "life is like a case of Fantomes... you never know what you’re going to get." This one is no exception. Dark reddish brown body (it’s a really big glass so it might be lighter) with a large puffy head. Aroma is dark fruits like raisins as well as spices. There is also a hint of vinegary cherries, and this gives the flavor a slightly sour finish. Perhaps a hint of wood aging in there? Another unique and enjoyable experience. How this is a Saison is beyond me... oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Dec 31, 2005 Bottled. Dark brown/black colour with brown huge head. Aroma of cherry, fruits, barnyard and some raosted malt. Flavour is sweet raisins, plum, toffeee, fruit, spices, roast and some smooth "leathery" notes. Very complex, but pleasant. Alcohol gives a small kick in finish. Long aftertaste of malt, caramel, raisins and sourness. Totally lovely! awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA Dec 30, 2005 Cloudy reddish brown pour with a hazel-brown frothy head. Chocolately cherry flavors initially soothe the tongue and the finish is that of a nice medium roast coffee. Very tasty, and could almost pass for a raspberry lambic. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Dec 29, 2005 Clouded ruddy amber dark murk with a soapy head of off-white. Pears and vinous notes with currants, cream, raisins and gentle brandy. Creamy and nutty. Peculiar leathery wood yand earth, with Sanka coffee. A note of orange peel dipped in milk chocolate, with a rough cheese (something pungent, soft and french) mingling with oats and grain from a horse barn. The delectable wild spontaneous lambic-like qualities really light me up, with some touches of sourness, cherries and soft leather. Delicious! Palate is sweet, but the alcohol was pleasently hidden until the finish, with nutty dryness. A little thin texture. JohnnyFlake (53), Henderson, Nevada, USA Dec 26, 2005 750 bottle - pours a very dark, murky brown, almost like prune juice, with a huge frothy, creamy head that hangs in all the way down the glass. Aroma is very complex, with lots of dark sweet fruit, caramel, coffee and tobacco. Flavor is also very complex, with strong hints of cocoa, figs, spices and lots of sour apple. Every now and then a mixture of yeast and alcohol come to the front, very interesting. Mouthfeel is heavy, rich and spicy. Aftertaste is long, with strong sour notes. This is a delightful beer, truly a masterpiece!
