A very dark and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer, at a whopping 10% alc. by volume. Reportedly spiced with honey, caramel, coriander, black pepper, and other secret ingredients. The alcohol content probably goes a long way toward explaining that very warm and satisfied feeling one finds on the very first sip. A rich, dark-flavored beer with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain. The wild yeast sourness also adds to its welcoming character.

From the green, corked 750 ml. bottle. Hazy bronze-amber pour leading up to a lingering off-white or cream colored head. This has had a few months to age. Toasted dark malts, pear, apple, and a touch of spice on the aroma. Maybe some booze but not overpowering in that sense. Medium to full body. Belgium - here I come. Yup. In the taste I get roasted biscuit malts, yeast, low profile Belgian sugar sweetness, a little clove, and a lingering bitterness. Dry finish too. Not necessarily worth paying $12 for the bottle but still enjoyable.

Bottle from Tipples. Giving Fantome one last chance after nothing but infected bandaids. Bottle is corked and capped. Pours very dark red with a creamy one finger off white head that stays on for a good while. Aroma of hay, grassy and lemony hops, some other floral aromatics, more farmhouse funky yeast and some light spice. Flavor is sweet up front with some brown sugar and plums but balanced by some grassy hops and funky yeast. There is light spice to this as well. This is like a Belgian Strong Dark that somehow is light and funky like a Saison. A really really interesting and unique flavor profile. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation and pretty easy drinking, but also sweet enough to be happy with a small bit. This redeems past failures for sure. What a beautifully crafted brew.

Bottle. Dark reddish copper with a thick off white head. Aroma is smoked malt, pepper and dark fruit. Taste follows and adds honey, caramel, apple and pear. Medium mouthfeel, slightly syrupy with spritzy carbonation. Deep, complex and tasty.

Bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a hazy iced tea color with foamy white head that hangs around for a bit. Aroma of yeast spices and a bit of roast malt. Taste is gingery with some other spices I can’t pick out. Roasty malt notes along withfaint yeast funkiness.

Kaataa tumman oranssista ja sameaa vaalean beigellä vaahdolla. Tuoksu on hapokas, mausteinen, suklainen ja hedelmäinen. Maku on hyvin hapan, keskikatkera, mausteinen ja jotenkin tomuinen maku. Hiilihappoja on keskiverto määrä. Melko runsasta tavaraa on. Fantome on mielenkiintoinen panimo ja oluet vaihtelevat joka erässä. Tämä oli ensimmäinen kerta, kun tätä olutta maistoin. Seuraava kerta voi tuoda mukanaan erilaisen kokemuksen.
