DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Feb 21, 2005 Pours a dark reddish brown color with a frothy off-white head. Piercing aroma, cherries, frosting, yeast, dark malts. Tastes like a combination of several styles, including dubbel, saison, and flemish sour. The result is an interesting beer, lots of fruit (black cherries and pomegranite), spices, vanilla, peppery, sweet throughout. Good all around. rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 9, 2005 bottled 2002 Amber hue, light foamy head, fruity aromas of dry raisins, plums, mocha coffee, sweet toasty malt of brown sugar. The palate is fascinating,medium-bodied, winey, tart, acidic, lactic flavors are taking the lead, but this beer is not from the lambic family or oud bruin, but still has a fruity, malty-chocolate balance in a stif finish. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Feb 5, 2005 ruby brown with a large tan head. aroma is fruity with a brandy touch and a raisin note. lemon alcohol flavor that goes over the top. finish is pepper, tart and alcohol. a caramel flavor comes out in the finish. very warming. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 25, 2005 Poured deep amber with a big rocky tan head...smell is caramel, clove, and coriander...taste is sweet with lots of caramel and toffee...mild tart finish...good... Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Jan 24, 2005 Bottle. Nose like brown sugar and sweetness. Beautiful taste. Very perfectly balanced sweetness and bitterness. Excellent earthy woody taste. Great bitter finish. Notes of raisin, fig, and hay come out. Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jan 22, 2005 Beautiful big head, though slightly loose; off-white in color; rich color in the body. Fruity, bubblegum, musty, with tiny bubbles and sediment. Brown sugar, caramel, and rather un-Fantome-like to my mind. A bit spicy, with some pepper up front. Pretty solidly enjoyable. doubletriple (52), Illinois, USA Jan 18, 2005 From a 750 into a chalice. Man it is beers like this that make me wish Xmas would never end. Didnt get any of the famous funk in this that some have described but an amazing chocolately-grape juice thing going on that warmed the hell out of me on a cold winter night. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Jan 8, 2005 Bottle from CaptainCougar. hazy brown. Domw floaties. Nice tan head fades slowly to ring the edge. Aroma is sweet and malty. Slight hints of "funky" yeast/bacteria. Nice sweet malt flavor, fruity. The wild flavors come through in the end. Slightly yeasty. Nice.
