75 cl bottle bought at Delerium, Brussels: Vintage. Pours unclear orange/amber with a little stable white head. Aroma is very spicy & yeasty - typical fantome. Taste is peppery, roasted malts, dusty/earthy, sour, perfume. Very dry. Body is a bit thin. This one we had a hard time figuring out whether we liked or not! (BB) A little over the top I think!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 17, 2002
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2009 Original rating: Opaque russet colour; nose of alcohol, plums, raisins, spice (paprika, white pepper), dried apricot, sandalwood; flavour is wonderfully barnyardy, with raisins, rodenbachish tannins, and an acidic finish. More recent samples have been less compelling, with reduced complexity and structural weaknesses. My rating has been downgraded to reflect this.

(750ml bottle) Pours a cloudy dark brown body with a moderate beige head. Aroma of bread, roasted malts, leather, and black licorice. Flavor of potent black pepper, flat cola, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon, and oregano. Interesting concoction.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TBone (9414) - Pori, FINLAND - MAY 13, 2005
Bottled 0,75 ltr
Very dark ruby, almost opaque. Good brown head. Aroma is earthy with light spices and "Fantome cardboard aroma". Earthy lambic-like flavor. Chocolaty with some coriander and cardboard (!) notes. Hides alcohol very well. Slight sour and dry palate. Maybe not the most enjoyable brew but certainly very interesting and complex.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 argo0 (9226) - Washington DC, USA - JAN 25, 2003
Cloudy red-brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is sour, cherry, with some vinegar; sweeter toward the bottom of the bottle. Taste is sour cherry, supplemented by vinegar and bubblegum. Very carbonated, and finishes dry.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 thewolf (8651) - Kolding, DENMARK - DEC 26, 2007
UPDATED: DEC 28, 2007 Bottle.
Pours a deep red with a frothy off white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is dry, biscuity, coriander, cinnamon, pine, heather, apple, Belgian sugars. Relatively high carbonation. Flavour is dry and crisp with light smokiness, caramel and lots of flowery hops. The spices take over and are stunningly balanced, lots of cinnamon and coriander, nutmeg and heather. Then a heavy peppery yeast finish kicks in. A seriously wonderful brew.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Christian (8548) - Odense, DENMARK - JAN 29, 2011
Red amber with a small white head. Complex spice aroma, with heral notes, perfumed floral notes and an underlying earthyness. Dry and spicy flavour with a pepper heat. Some times Fantome just gets it right. This one certainly worked for me.

Dutch Ratebeer meeting. Best before 2001. Brown colored, cloudy. Chocolate aroma with cinnamon, cranberry. Malty flavor with cherry, chocolate and cinnamon. Some fruity sourness. Well hidden alcohol. Complex and herbal.
