COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A very dark and entirely unique holiday seasonal beer, at a whopping 10% alc. by volume. Reportedly spiced with honey, caramel, coriander, black pepper, and other secret ingredients. The alcohol content probably goes a long way toward explaining that very warm and satisfied feeling one finds on the very first sip. A rich, dark-flavored beer with lots of deep-roasted chocolate malt, but still fairly dry, with a hint of sourness at the core. It is very spicy, with some winter spruce flavor in the bargain. The wild yeast sourness also adds to its welcoming character.

Very murky reddish brown, sour, fruity and plenty of holiday spice - nutmeg and clove. Very strong but no alcohol in the flavor profile. Delicious with cornbread stuffing.

Red-brown on color; Slightly pink head was HUGE and rocky; nose was musky and yeasty. First sip is tart and bile-like, but not in a bad way (?). The tartness doesn’t kick your ass like a gueze but keeps you on your toes for sure. Strawberry hidden in there somewhere as well. The alcohol is nowhere to be found. Woody at the end. This is one of the most challenging beers I think that I have ever had. Thank you VENOM.

Crosling (1861) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 17, 2004
Dark Burgundy. Bizarre. sweet bouquet of strawberries, dates, dark fruits (cherries and plums), chocolate, medicines, spices and bizarre Fantome yeast. Tastes begins with a variety of fruit and spice (cherries, prunes, red apples), earth, tree branches, vinegar and finishes with a sense of dry and bitter chocolate. Warming, full bodied and very different compared to other Fantomes but still phenomenal in nearly every aspect.

Pours a dark brown with 2cm of thick tan head. Quite a spicy aromas, typical of Fantome beers with some cinnamon to compliment it. Taste was very nice, very spicy, with some dark malts, and some light chocolate characters that seem to balance out the sourness pretty well. Fantome does great stuff. Finish was pretty smooth and the alcohol was masked pretty well. Another great effort from these guys.

Dark mahogany with a very large off white head and nice lacing. Big aromas of caramel, fruits (grape/prune), and yeast and bread. Flavors are nearly the same as the aroma with the caramel coming out a bit stronger. Very strong fruits coming out as well. Many spices. Alcohol. Big body and a strong and spicy palate. Very nice Belgian from the Fantome.

Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is spice, some swamp and yeast. Meh. Flavour is malty sweetness, spices, dry sourness reminding of white grapes. Dust, hay, spices and a slight sourness in the finish.

John bought a bottle at PP bottle shop. Thanks John! Tasted with PP bottle shop with pantanap, alohaC, Sean, John, and Ryan. John had a story about how he had a case of these from 1996 or so that went bad, and how disapointing it was to pour them out. Amber color. Some brown sugar and molasses in the aroma. Fantome-ish aroma.
