UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 Thanks to tiggmtl for bringing this to our tasting with MartinT, Oakes and Kimchee. Appearance proposes a cloudy amber body with the almost typical Fantôme head, gigantic in size, off-white, mountainous, rocky with superb lacing. Yeast particules are everywhere. Aroma is very candyish, like sweet flowers, estery and eAstery, extremely yeasty as well. Lots of nuances in there, but flavor balance is mostly on the sweet side. Hints of powder sugar, vanilla, juniper, cherries, citrus... Taste surprises by its moderate sourness, sour grapes or cherries. Lots of fruity suggestions (myrtle, cranberry). Very spicy (ginger and many others hard to identify). Unexplicable barnyardy flavors gently complement this weird, funky fruitiness. Adorable as expected with just a slice of dry bitterness cutting through toward the end, but the acidity already had the harsh balancing task in hands. Great mouthfeel, highly carbonated, fluffy, airy.

birra fantastica specialmente se versata dal sig. Dany!!! il mio giudizio è forse in parte influenzato dalla mia visita alla brasserie fantome(un’esperienza unica e irripetibile che consiglio a tutti) ma questa birra ha un’ aroma è un sapore favoloso e duraturo!

Pours a darkish red/brown. Aromas of spice, coriander, yeast, and alcohol. Flavor has an alcohol taste to it, mixed with a nice smokey dark fruit. Also has strong hints of spice and orange.

Bottle. (the bottle was old)
Hazy light amber with a huge white head. The liguid was thick and almost syrupy. The aroma was rather fresh with something "strange" in it. The taste was yeasty with something that reminded of lemon yogurt. Really a strange beer but next time I must try a fresh bottle. I hesitated if I would rate this or not.

Bottle at Chris O’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Hazy yellow color. Musty, earthy and fruity aroma and flavor with grapefruit and white pepper. Slightly acidic and slightly tannic. Complex and rustic beer.

Sour aroma. Very dry and musty. Some fruitiness too. Thick and mashy body. Lacks the fresh grunginess of a good saison. Didn’t inspire me.

Bottle @ Chriso’s pre-GBBF shindig. Pours a cloudy creamy gold, with a small white head. Slightly tart, creamy, strawberry with a touch of sherbert

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Pours cloudy yellow-gold with a filmy head. Crisp, slightly grassy aroma. Nice sweetness, light bread in the flavor. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Very faint warmth to finish, bit more grass, yeast and light sugars. Nice beer.

Bottle at Chriso’s. Golden orange color. Flavors of wheat, cereals, spice: cinnamon and nutmeg, honey. very oxidized, mellow aged, old but estery and interesting.

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11. It pours orange-amber, with a thin foamy white head and moderate carbonation. The nose is strawberry, orange, pineapple and spice. The taste is hay, straw, lime, lemon, orange, spice, pepper and grass. A pleasant saison.

Aroma has lots of forest-like hops and fruits, especially lemon. Flavour is foresty too and it has some brown sugar with some lemon. Good and refreshing saison.
