3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A steady pour into my Teku glass produces a two-finger thick, lightly brown tinged, creamed-amber colored head. The beer is a concentrated brown color that shows a hazy, dark amber / dark plum hue when held up to the light. The aroma is smoky, weirdly fruity, with perhaps a touch of fruitiness. Aromas of tamarind, perhaps a hint of brown sugar, a deeply earthy spice character, which melds well with a toasted, brown malt, whole grain character.
Very lightly sour, but pleasingly so, the tartness melds with a light roasted character and a touch of smokiness that lingers on the palate. The smokiness here almost seems a bit more than yeast would contribute, but it might just be from a phenolic yeast strain. The tartness contributes a filtered tamarind flavor, perhaps a touch of apple like notes, and an interesting, not quite herbal, not quite vegetal, perhaps rhubarb like note towards the finish. The beer is quite light bodied, especially for a beer of this strength, exceedingly quaffable. There is a nutty, toasted brown bread, and wholesomely sweet, brown grain breadiness to this beer that helps to ground this beer quite well. As the beer warms up it gets a touch more malt focused, still lightly tart, but perhaps a bit more balanced.
Extra sour? I am not too sure about that, even for a Fantôme, but it certainly has a nice tartness to it. This beer drinks exceedingly light for its labeled alcohol, in fact I wonder if it is really this strong. Definitely an interesting beer, it grew on me more as I worked my way through the bottle.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Picked this up in Belgium. Thanks Dany. Enjoyed split 2 ways @ 45 F in stemware. Pours flat dar brown fig colored actually. no head. The nose has a little acetic tartness some smoke, cherry skins and clove. Other faint berries. taste is interesting. I get cherry cola, a lot of smoke, some plastic, berries and some other dark fruits. It is slightly tart, tea-like and a crisp finish. the smokiness is not pleasant in this case but it is an interesting beer. Very amazing the ABV is 10 degrees.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Big swing-top bottle shared by Roger - thanks again! Pours a dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of leather, oak, funk, dark fruit, and light smoke. The flavor is the same, mostly, but fruitier and even less smoky. Light-medium bodied, with low carbonation and a tart, malty, somewhat smoked mouthfeel. But the smoke shows up after the finish on the palate, for the most part. Really odd beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Taste from a bottle at phaleslu’s Weird Beers Tasting. 750ml bottle. Clear lighter brown color. Little off-white / khaki head, just a few bubbles, a few bits of lace. Big smoke, dark fruit, vinous notes in the flavor. Moderate sour taste, kind of bitter. Some metallic, mild oxidization. Medium to bigger body. Kind of slick texture. Lighter carbonation. Alright stuff, not crazy about this one.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
bottle shared by tom10101, thanks (?) pours dirty medium dark brown with a dirty light beige head offering good retention and some nice lacing. very yeasty - peppery and spicy with an off red fruitiness - dried currants and cherries perhaps, minerals, smoke, tobacco, ashes, plastic, metal, grass. lively carbonation, light body, light and welcoming acidity - mainyl lactic, for a gently tart, lightly astringent and smoky-grassy-peppery finish. this is a joke. DP.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Plastique fumé, acide lactique, différentes couches caramélisées et surtout de la confusion. J’aurais surement donné une pire note si j’avais eu une plus grande portion.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by tom10101, thanks a lot Tom! Pours a dark brown with a small white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is of rubber, smoke, funk and roasted malt. Weird. Taste is tart but not really sour and offers more smoke, weird fruits and ash. Body was medium, carbonation as well and acidity level was pretty good and definitely not over the top. Overall this was weird, not totally unpleasant and fun to try but weird.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle (750 ml). Thanks to Sam for this one! Murky brown with a small persistent beige head and little lacing. Aroma is off with mushroom notes and smoke, but there’s also a nice sourness, roasted malt, hints of chocolate and some spiciness. Taste is moderately sour with mushrooms, smoke, roasted malt, hints of caramel and some burnt rubber. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Not the worst Fantôme I’ve had, but it’s definitely off. It’s hard to get past the rubber/smoke/mushrooms presence...

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Swing top Bottle; Pour is murky brown with a modest, fine bubbled khaki head into this glass - retention is modest, with light lacing presence. The nose is vibrant dark fruit, earthy oak and mild vanilla notes, moving to a sweet and sour vinous character here. Interesting. There is the obligatory spice note (of course) - Anyway - Love the bottle, love the nose on this one - but the appearance and the flavor profile leave a bit to be desired here. Initial sweet tart, spent grain, moving to belgian yeast presence, dark fruits (currant), smoked oak, with a lingering bittering - the center lacks heft here though - It’s interesting / different - but it doesnt... quite... mesh

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at Levi’s. Another awesome Fantome, I love this brewery. Smoke and osur aroma. Flavor has more smoke, some meat. Dry and earthy, with a light sourness. I might have classified this as a smoked beer rather than sour, as the smoke is much more prominent than the sour character.
