2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Scopey (3357) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 5, 2013
Bottle shared at Delirium, Brussels. It pours clear gold with a medium white head. The nose is very herbal indeed.... big on the oregano, bay leaf, hay and light spice. The taste is earth, strongly herbal, spice, decent bitterness, nectarine, pithy lemon, dough, metal, alcohol and some underlying sweetness with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate-high carbonation. Very odd indeed. Would be OK if you’re looking for a pizza beer, which I am most definitely am not!

Bottle @ Delirium, Brussels. Lets play Fantome Russian Roulette! The pour’s light gold with a tiny head. Distinct seagull shit on the nose. Bizzare notes of pizza (oregano, tomato). Some herbs and brett. The taste is STRONG herbs. More oregano, anise. Some lemony tartness. More pizza. Slightly astringent in the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, not great.

Snatched the opportunity from Thorpe to share this at the Fantôme tasting yesterday, so I could at least throw one cool Fantôme brew into the mix.
Sampled alongside twenty other Fantôme beers.
The beer appears a hazy, golden yellow color, with a half inch or so of white head. The aroma is dominated by oregano. I can’t say I have encountered a beer like this before.
Oregano takes center stage, and the beer has a flavor akin to pizza. This guy likes pizza, and Fleur de Bomal is well crafted, so I happen to enjoy this beer. On the other hand, this is definitely not for everyone. An odd beer for sure. Other saison characteristics are there (funk, yeast, fruit, floral notes, etc.), but are veiled behind an onslaught of oregano.
Light to medium in body with solid carbonation. Lingering herbal flavors on the palate.
Overall, a truly interesting and creative beer. I definitely recommend trying it, should you have the opportunity.

75 cl bottle @ Hervanta. Rated on 21.05.2010
Aroma has some soapy citrus with hints of spices, pencil and distant floral notes. Flavour has grapefruit, some citrus and floral notes. Also hints of spices. Could not really locate the oregano here. Good.

Bottle, 75cl corked. A lightly hazy golden beer topped by a small, off-white head leaving lacings. The aroma is spiced and flowery, with pale malts and fruitiness chiming in. Hints of cedar, flower honey, camphor and black pepper too. Quite complex flavor, with pale malts and a generic fruitiness doing most of the job, but spices, flowers and camphor blends nicely in. A nice herbal bitterness comes stronger towards the end. Medium to full body. Wow, this is one wonderful saison. 111229

Bottle. Orange brown pour, lots of chunks. Aroma of honey, cherries and ketchup, smells slightly old as well. Taste is sweet and sour, lots of strange fruity flavors with a slight vinegary twist. Palate is dry and almost flat. Obviously not what I was hoping for from this.
