UPDATED: JUN 2, 2013 Pour is a murky orange, lots of yeast, and a huge off white head. Tons of funk on the nose, very floral, almost a hint of red grape, some sweet fruit, and slightly grassy. Very funky taste as well, very smokey (peat) too and that was very unexpected, musty grass notes, piney floral notes, and some very soft citrus notes. Definitely the most unique saison I’ve ever had. Don’t know how well the peat smokiness works, but it’s still tasty.

750 ml bottle @ Kick. Hazy orange body with a creamy off-white head. Nice farmhouse aroma, light funky with spicy yeast and oranges. Flavor is sweet malt, slightly acidic, citric fruit, oranges zest, pepper and spicy with moderate bitterness. Medium body and decent aftertaste. Quite rustic, not exactly what I will call elegant but enjoyable on its own premises.

"Musty, fruity and tart. Not quite as good as the sum of its parts, but definitely enjoyed. kind of an ugly looking pour, but that’s really not high on my list. The earthy funk won me over."

Bottle. Berry, apple, spice, and some tart aromas. Taste is sweet with a dry finish with a malty backbone. Pretty good beer but not what I expect from a saison.

Pours hazy unclear amber with almost no head. Aroma is wild and funky with notes of sweet citrus, some hay and weak wheat. Taste of wild boneyard, funky mouldy notes, wheat, some hops and some bitter citrus.

Corked 75 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy amber with some sediment and a white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are cinnamon, herbs, dried fruit, and yeast - with a dry finish.

Impresionante.

750mL capped & corked Champagne bottle BB end of 2016 Big fluffy foam dies down to a dense cap atop a hazy deep honey gold body. Spicy aroma, very complex; phenolic & woody clove, overly ripe pear & banana-like esters, fennel & coriander seed, hay & porrigey malts, touch of malt vinegar. Carbonation relatively subdued for style, as is the body, somewhat thick, slightly stodgy, more like a Belgian strong than a Saison, not to take anything away from it, plusthere’s still a tickle of acidity. Once again, it’s a complex mix on the body; bruised banana & apple, cider vinegar, whole cloves, bay leaf, white pepper, some minerality there, sherbert, grassy herbal hops. Bitterness reasonably pronounced, long finish, alcohol growing in warmth as I get through. Second beer from this brewery, and no less impressed that the first time - there’s something rustic & unique about them.
