RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA May 31, 2008 Pours a clouded gold with a thinner white head that falls to nothing fairly quickly. Nose is that slightly antiseptic and fully funky. Flavor is bringing the funk, but it also has quite a brighter citric side to it as well. I want to say that the alcohol might be making a slight presence as well. Really it tastes like lemonade in a way. Feel is slick on liquid and the carbonation is biting. Nice to drink. A bit too citric, really. But still it’s nice to have. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA May 30, 2008 bottle shared by dewbrewer. Thanks!
Pour bright orange and is slightly hazy. Smell is fresh and bright, but funky and dusty as well. Some orange in the nose too. Taste is dry, funky, and truly strange. Dusty, and a very light sourness in the finish. Medium to thin bodied. Light carbonation. Pretty unique, even as fantome beers go, with really hard to place spiced flavors. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA May 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a large off-white head that fades leaving some spotty lacing. Aroma of over ripe citrus, caramel, spicy yeast, and a hint of acidity. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness, well hidden alcohol, and a spicy yeasty finish. Not much of the Fantôme funk that I love but still a very tasty brew. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 27, 2008 Updated: Mar 23, 2009Bottle shared by some Texas residents at lb4lb’s tasting, a big thank you. Poured a hazy golden-orange color with a thin white head that receded to a ring and left some lacing. Spicy, citrus aroma and some funky barnyard and moderate yeast. Tart, funky taste with some moderate fruit presence (orange, lemon, apricot) with a nice peppery spiciness and some yeast character and some more light fruitiness on the finish. Smooth, crisp beer with good carbonation. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada May 27, 2008 Perhaps a poor sample? Bottle from John’s Market. Dark red amber. Good but not crazy head. Lots of carbonation keeps a fair cover on the beer. Lively nose with lots of warm spice and a hint of...of...diaper pail. Flavour is caramel and warm spice (Kwak-like) ant then finishes with a sour ugly finish. The yeast in the bottom of the bottle makes the beer taste smoother. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 27, 2008 Bottle (750ml - green). At 2nd Annual Summer Saison Tasting - blankboy’s bottle. Murky deep amber with an average fizzy white head. Pungently floral aroma, with spice and what can only be described as "old piss" dominating. The taste, now there’s not much pee HERE - sort of like the powder to make tangerine koolaid, intense in many ways, sweetness, floral/herbal essence, even fairly strong alcohol - but weirdly very good. Thick bodied, I mean really, really thick .... lots going on with acidity and spice and sourness ... I mean really, why do I like this? "old piss?" and I’m in the high 3s???? illkarate (89), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 23, 2008 Pours a murky orange with a massive head. Total pour time for the standard tulip glass was at least 5 minutes. REALLY lively carbonation. Great mouthfeel, playful, almost sticky. Lots of spice flavor (coriander, pine, hints of apple, soy, alcohol hints to the nose... Not my favorite Fantome but definitely good. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA May 20, 2008 Candy, spicy, slightly minty aroma. Pours cloudy amber with a huge head, lots of carbonation. Its missing that classic fantome flavor! This is the 1st beer i’ve had from them that doesn’t have that great funkiness. Very malty, spicy, slightly fruity with white grapes. Good beer but probably my least favorite from Fantome.
