A little too much spice and phenols for my liking. still its a solid beer JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Bottled. Pours muddy tan color, overripe fruity nose like stewed apples with some cinnamon. Tastes more grainy and caramel-malty, lightly sweet with subtle tartness and mild bitterness. Lively mouthfeel goes a touch dry, with dusty-hop finish and a touch of booze. Interesting and easily likable. TheEpeeist (1445), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2008 25.4 oz bottle. Froth slowly rises up the neck after uncapping. Muddy brown with suspended bits and a creamy bone head. Nose is sweet floral yeast and lemon custard. More substantial than other Fantômes with mild foamy carb. Taste is yeasty apple and toffee with a spicy finish. Seems more like a Belgian Strong. sayravai (3729), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 21, 2008 (Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy golden with a medium, foamy and lacy head. Spicy-peppery, earthy aroma with pale, grainy malt and some grassy hops. Slight toffee-caramely, banana-fruity sweetness with peppery rosemary spiciness, and flowery-aromatic hops. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. With yeast, there’s some orangey fruitiness. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. A quite enjoyable brew, but both strangely spicy (as Fantomes always), and sweetish (as they rarely are). Not very complex, though. durhambeer (1203), Durham, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Dark orange/amber haze with red tints when held up to the light. Lots of lovely chunklets hanging stagnant. Thinnish off-white head that sticks around for a bit. Sweet nose -- spicy coriander hits first, then citrusy hops, caramel, malt, yeast, bananas. Surprising amount of hops present. Quite nice. emacgee (1864), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The aroma was citrisy, tart, spice, and hoppy. The flavor was very spicy, alcohol, hoppy, sweet, and malty. The palate was medium-bodied and well-carbonated. The finish was warm. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2008 750ml bottle pours dark and muddy rusty brown in color with a tan head. Weird vegetal nose, spiced juniper/gin, some thyme and basil notes... just a weird presentation, a little celery-scented yeast... hmm. Full, frothy body, a light pinch of alcohol noticed, but mostly just a strange, frothy vegetable and wet bread note, herbs as well, then slightly sweetening in the finish... difficult to enjoy, I think this is the worst experience with a Fantome since I tried Printemps. Has some things to like, but ultimately the negatives outweigh the positives.
