Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11. It pours hazy golden yellow, with a decent foamy white head. The nose is orange, lemon, lime, ginger and yeast. The taste is lemon, tangy orange, mango, apricot, ginger and lime sourness, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A very tasty, tangy saison.

(Bottle, 0.75 l, at Gastropub Tuulensuu, 20110719) The beer poured orange and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had a lot of lemon and also quite an amount of spices. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were lemon, spices, mildly sourness and also mild bitterness. Aftertaste had lemon and bitterness. The lemon drowned the saison characteristics too much.

750 ml bottle. Finland.
Hazy orange colour with no head. Sourness, citrus, freshness and peppermint in fascinating aroma. Flavour is also very citrusy with some sourness and notes of toothpaste peppermint. Really drinkable for a 8%. An hour and one bottle later it was quite evident that there’s alcohol in it. Interesting and enjoyable brew.

(750 ml bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu.)
Fair amount of yeast on the bottom. Pours a nice, very saison-like hazy colour with a minimal head. Leaves a decent lacing on the glass. A lot of lemon and lime on the nose. They also dominate the taste with a hint of white grapefruit. Light bodied, low carbonation with a thin mouthfeel. The alcohol is well-hidden.

It is worth noticing that this is a very raw saison, as it’s bottled only a couple months ago. Needs to be re-rated next year.

{thoughts} Classically Fantôme --strong, spicy and even oily. The youth and low carbonation of this beer suggest it may well improve with further conditioning. As it stands, the beer lingers heavily on the tongue causing an overwhelming buildup of flavors.

{elements} Murky terracotta hue; no head. Recognizably Fantôme --forceful lemons and musk at the forefront with a strong biscuit-cookie aroma not far behind; sweaty after a while. Moderate sweetness, moderate-heavy acidity, low bitterness; cookie and lemon flavors, pears, passion fruit and a prickly-perfume finish. Oily texture, low carbonation, medium-full body. 75 cl bottle @ GP Tuulensuu, best before 05/2012.
