   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
Glouglouburp (5929) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2009
In short: A weird yeasty Belgian ale blending over-the-top herbal flavours and thick juiciness. Inexplicably very good.
How: Bottle 750ml, corked. Consumed
The look: Cloudy dirty orange body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: The unusual nose is very herbal with oregano coming out strong as well as herbs like basil and such. All that on a layer of citrus fruits. Unusual for sure but not unpleasant at all, actually quite intriguing. Taste is pretty much what the aroma hinted on. Oregano, basil, some other dry herbs, condensed citrus juice, mangos. The dryness of the herbs was nicely counterbalanced by the juiciness of the fruity flavour components. I found my 750ml surprisingly easy to drink for such a herbal/spicy oddity and I could have gone for a second one. This is not a cohesive harmonious beer, if anything I suspect that a bunch of stuff was thrown into the kettle without a precise idea of what the end-product would taste like. I cannot objectively defend the merits such an oddball beer but honestly it kept me as entertained as watching two rats try to fuck a wool sock.

Awesome rare fantome shared by my main man maxdaddy at BCTC. Thanks a ton, MaxxY! Nose of lemon, tea, lemon tea, orange, and lime. Flavor is very lemony as well, a sling twang of fantome funk, but mostly the former. Good stuff and very happy to be able to sample.

Bottle at BCTC 2009: Pours a murky deep golden topped by a white film. The aroma is very unique- lots of lime, rind, bright fresh literal citrus with a mint note as well- reminiscent of a fresh well made mojito. Creamy body with a complex and dry flavor- citric lime rind with a touch of vanilla in the background. Has a spicy depth on the back ranging from mint leaf to white pepper. A very unique and interesting beer, like always from this brewer.

Bottle at BCTC. Pours a murky light brown. Smells like… oranges. Not just orange juice, but the pith, rind, and zest. Amazing. A little excessive to be sure, but still nice. Flavor follows the nose, but really reminds me mostly of a creamsicle. Light and crisp. Interesting.

Shared by MaxPapi @ BCTC, thanks a lot. I will conceptualize this beer as Max prefaced it... LEMON. No idea what they did but it was crazy lemon all around. I can’t tell you what the shit looked like.. um.. lets say golden. What I can say it is was lemon and had a weird stingy feel to it. The fucking dude knows how to fucking fuck around with beer. Thanks a fucking lot Max.

A hazy golden ale with a thick off white head. An interesting aroma of clover hoeny and light orange pulp, bees wax. In mouth, a sweet candy sugar, with lemony accids, coriander, a bit short in mouth. 750 mL bottle from Bieropholie. Tasted June 20 2009.

Bottle. hazy orangey amber with a steady head. Intense fruity aroma, lots of orange (to be expected from Gilles) and mandarine. Spicy orange and lemon flavours, noticeable alcohol, good balance. Another unique beer from Fantôme.

0,75 l bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Cloudy orange-amber with a nice white foam. Aroma: Spicy, funky, musty orange/citrus, yeast and wet bread dough, bitter herbs, white pepper, some sweet floral honey, quite fruity. Palate: Medium body with lively effervescence. Flav.: lots of juicy orange, orange peel, spice, coriander, spiciness, some yeast, bitter herbs, light funk; kinda sweet but also bright with some bitterness to balance.

A very drinkable and enjoyable ale. Would be great for a patio on a hot day.
