Countbeer (4672) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUL 15, 2012
Bottle: Vast medium white creamy thicker white head, disappears very slow on top of a hazy yellow to orange colored beer. Smell is a special mix of rubber, sharper flowers, yellow fruits, yeast, flowers, some lemon, light earthy an sone sweet light stingy hay. Taste is a very nice mix of crispy yellow fruit, hops, yeast, pine and spices and some fruity forest herbs. Refreshing in one way a nice bitter hetbal coktail in the other... Aftertaste of yeast, yellow fruit, wheat, spicy grains and a crispy fruity touch.  Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, good medium body and a light creamy texture. A good exameple of a Belgian beer.

A steady, careful pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a three finger thick, pale, just barely tanned, white head; the head forms nicely varied, craggy, formations as it slowly subsides, all the while leaving dense lace on the sides of my glass. The beer is a pale amber tinged, straw gold color that sometimes shows orange notes to it, and shows an almost clear, bright straw-gold color when held up to the light. The aroma has an interesting herbal and almost minty like note to it. Somehow it reminds me just a touch like it is toothpaste, but in a good way. There is an earthy, dried straw, cracker, definitely musty, slightly coriander like character that seems to be contributed by a mix of hop, yeast, and malt notes. That sort of toothpaste, not quite minty note, also seems to have a light pepper like quality to it.

This has a nice straw like pale grain character as well as a chewy, cracker / rustic white bread flavor to it in the middle. The beer is fairly dry, but still manages to have a sort of honey like character to it, this melds with and accentuates a dry fruit character that is reminiscent of melons, perhaps a hint of star-fruit, and maybe a touch of pear; the fruit character seems evocative of the dry, sometimes mineral like, fruit notes one gets from some good, non-oaked, white wines. The fruit character is fairly subtle though, mostly notes of pale grain, herbal notes and some light spicing play the more noticeable roles. This has a sort of mustiness to it, a slight peppery character, some light phenolic turpene notes in the lingering finish, and perhaps a touch of ginger like character. The body of this beer is quite light, definitely quenching and quaffable, but it has just enough viscosity and malt heft to keep from being watery. As the beer warms up a bit the phenolic character in the finish gets a bit plastic like, not quite medicinal, but definitely a bit sharp, and this mixes with a light hop bitterness that provides some bite to the finish.

I am not quite sure what is going on with this beer, what was added to this beer, it comes out mostly in the aroma, but certainly perfumes the flavor as well; I can’t quite place it, sort of minty, sort of tooth paste like, somewhat herbal, accentuatingly grassy perhaps, whatever it is, it is at a perfect level for this beer and just adds that touch of well integrated Fantôme complexity. This definitely keeps you guessing; just a fantastic Saison.
