4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
In short: A differently spicy barnyard blonde ale. Original, complex, sessionnable. Great beer.
How: Bottle 750ml, capped and corked. Consumed very fresh 2 weeks after first rating
The look: Cloudy blonde body topped by a persistent large white head leaving lots of lacings
In long: The beer opens with a loud healthy pop. The nose is has a spicy character reminiscent of Fantome’s own Strange Ghost with rosemary, oregano and more. However the spiciness is not over-the-top like with Strange Ghost and the Fantome yeast signature comes through. Taste is more of the same. Doughy chewy pale malts, cheese, pineapples, flowers mash, barnyard, rosemary, oregano, light notes of coriander. The spiciness is really not overdone and the beer is highly drinkable. One of the very good Fantomes I’ve had and I slightly pefered this Piétrain Blonde over the regular La Piétrain (now called La Piétrain Ambré). I drank this beer sitting in the wild with a fantastic view on the great Transylvania mountains. Totally surreal moment. Did you ever have one of those days where everything is just perfect and you don’t fuck everything up by doing something totally stupid? What is that like?

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle... Poured cloudy pale yellow with a white head. Nose had some botanical, spruce/juniper tones. Reminded me of gin a little bit. Flavor was totally different with a mild malt sweetness, some crazy barnyard funk. With citrus, grassy earthiness, and lots of spiciness. A little chemical smokiness too.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle, pretty fresh. Pours a cloudy, glowing, orange-amber color with a thin, foamy blanket of off-white to beige tinted foam. Splotchy flares of lace mark the glass. The nose is suggests an odd, mildly smoky overtone amidst a straw-like malt base, with notes of house Fantôme minty-tart yeast, hibiscus petals, and softly peppery spice. The flavor is a bit more clean, dropping off much of the smokey phenols, and filling out with a rounder, doughier malt profile. It is again very floral, touching on dusty, dried hibiscus, with secondary notes of lemony pith and white pepper. The body is ever so slightly less substantive than your standard Fantôme, drinking a bit easier than usual, carbonated nicely, and finishing out somewhat dry. I’m not crazy about the nose, but it is otherwise a very fine brew.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle … Fantômepalooza 2011… Mostly clear golden ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. The bouquet provides uber spice-rackiness – herbal, minty and just a weird combination of spices and herbs. Strange marriage of fragrances. Medium to full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor is bready, bittersweet and spicy. Finishes yeasty and bittersweet, then the bitterness lingers a good while. Not really my thing, but big-time thanks go out to Beerlando for sharing this rarity! I’ve never run into a beer that I’ve regretted trying at least once.
