Shared bottle at Papsoe’s summer tasting. Low greyish-blond head. Hazy, light orangey golden body. Citrus zest and spiced to the nose. Taste is dominatet by sharpish, almost astringent herbal and leafy flavor. Dryish, restrained malt body with ash notes. Some acidic, light funky fruit tones and straw-like hops underneath. Light in the mouth. Soft carbonation. Smokey endnotes. Strange brew, pretty good though. [14.07.12]

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Huhzubendah (1980) - Washington DC, USA - DEC 6, 2012
Bottle shared by craytonic. Thanks Matt.
Sampled alongside twenty other Fantôme beers.
The beer appears a light yellow hue and fairly hazy, with a small white head and some decent lacing on the snifter. The aroma offers a lot of musty funk, more than is customary in a Fantôme beer. Additional scents of citrus, floral notes, and a very present spicy aspect. Unorthodox and intriguing. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Though complex, intriguing, and well crafted, I found a small serving to be plenty. Abundant spice is best in small quantities. Overall, an interesting beer and certainly worth a try, should you have an opportunity.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 maekchu (1090) - Hirakata, JAPAN - NOV 18, 2012
Bottle. Lemon, yeast, hay, glue, and barnyard. Cloudy apple juuice color, great lace and head. Big citrusy and barnyard initial (very much saison-like); mid palate has some peaches, pepper, and honey; finish is harsh, bitter and long. Thin-medium body. Very complex aromas and flavors. Really an in-your-face brew. It grows on you, and becomes more intriguing with each sip.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 KyotoLefty (4725) - Kyoto, JAPAN - NOV 17, 2012
Bottle. Pretty orange-gold color, cloudy, with a tall and fine head. Big lemon and orange aroma, minerals, barnyard. Funk-ass flavor with cabbage, lemon, esters, peaches, pencil lead, where pepper, and some tropical fruit. Very shocking and unpleasant at first sip, but grew to be very enjoyable, interesting, complex, and somewhat comical. Bitter finish, with funk as well, bitterness coming from all directions—hops, yeast, malt too I suspect. Crazy but (and) great.
