Bottle from Bier Tempel. I often smile to myself at the chaps in such shops frantically checking their phones for Ratebeer scores or equivalent. Content in my ’superior knowledge’ I’m normally happy to wing it...then I get home and discover my carefully sourced Fantome is green. Very green. I mean seriously, it looks more like a cocktail from the Mos Eisley cantina than a beer! Once you get beyond the green colour it’s actually quite interesting. Initially quite standard saison if you keep your eyes shut, some heavy Fantome yeast, clean, quenching, little bit of bitterness, there’s a definite lime taste, then the green tea hits towards the end with that weird end of drink palate heaviness I find from green tea related products. Reminds me a bit of the Japanse green tea cafe in Kyoto! I’d put this beer in the very interesting and good but slightly weird category.

Bottled. Pours cloudy and greenish with an average off-white head. Aroma of yeast, a little funk, citrussy notes, some spice and herbal tea. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry. Medium bodiedd, oily texture and lively carbonation. Quite special, crisp and very nice in its own way. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Bottle 75cl from Bierhalle Deconinck, @ home. Green color, no head. Aroma of green tea similar in the taste. Almost no carbonation. Very special, to be tried at least once.

Bottle. Green (green tea is not usually that green) with a small nearly white head that doesn’t last that well. Aroma of green tea, spices, limes, jubes. Nothing that really suggested sour, but it is a bit. Balanced with jube-like sweetness. Sharp Kiwi fruit? Tea is less obvious in the taste. Wouldn’t guess it’s as strong as 8%. Dry and moderately bitter at the end with some odd but pleasant herbal things and lime cordial.

75 cl bottle. Looks like murky algae pond water, a small off white head. Aroma is sweet and nothing like any beer aroma before; "Ahlgrens bilar", "Hugoläsk", cheap gummy candy and ripe fruit, mint, quite refreshing, perhaps a wee bit green tea at the end. Taste is slightly tart, refreshing with some citrus, mint, herbal spicyness, sugary sweetness (candi sugar?) and belgian yest notes. Medium body and carbonation, dry mouth feel.
Very, very interesting and refreshing beer. Would def. seek out again!

*Old rating, best before Jan 13. Spannendes grünes Bier. Riecht mehrt nach Waldmeister als nach grünem Tee. Frisch-säuerlich, spannend-säuerliche Pferdedecke, frisch-säuerlicher Waldmeister. Nett.

Bottle. Hazy/murky lime green with a medium sized green tinted white head. Green is a fine colour and I haven’t had a green beer since Thisted Bryghus made one with artificial colouring in the good old ’90s. The nose is fruity saison as is the flavour pretty much; well ripe apple and pear, honey, dusty, damp hay, grass. It has a touch of seaweed, mint and tea like bitterness as well. Fine balance, feels a little bit heavy and could benefit from slightly higher carbonation, but still drinks well for the abv.
