2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2015 Pours a jade green, cloudy at first but seems to clear up. Looks like no beer I have ever seen, so props for that. Smells like a deodorant soap...Dial, perhaps? Some jasmine. Taste is pretty much the same...not a soapy feel, or the way some hops are soapy, just imagine if it wasn’t making you gag what drinking a florally, liquid soap. I don’t get the point of this at all and why anyone would want to drink it is beyond me. Not even like a saison with green tea...glad I tried it.

I had this a year ago but since I just joined I need to add it. Still my favorite beer of all time. I drank a 2009 vintage and it was rich with green tea and yeasty funk. Amazing

This fizzy green elixir fills the glass with it’s airy head. Funky nose with a whiff of tea. The body exhibits and enjoyable matcha tea character with a nice twangyness on the finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Looks .. Cloudy yellow golden with heavy green tinge..then very lime green on second pour with some sediment.. Med head
Smells..fresh hay, some sweet fruit, a little dull orange and candy, spice & green tea.
Tastes..fruit, citrus & some funk that gives a slight tart character, that is dulled by the malt and ends with earthy..swampy yet bittersweet green tea

75cl bottle shared in a tulip. Initially disappointed with the lack of green - the pigment is located in the sediment. Once the sediment is poured in you are looking at thick almost neon green with a nice white head. Maybe not the most appetizing look but I can only give it full marks for the novelty. Aroma is typical saison notes (hay, earthy) with lots of fruitiness. Taste is citrusy notes (mostly lime) almost no bitterness and just the right level of sweetness. Very, very refreshing (glad I waited for the hottest day of the year so far to open this one). I would definitely buy this again because it is so unique and I can think of nothing better for the scorching summer (I don’t like wit beers). The ABV is almost non-existent. You would never guess this is 8%. Too easy to drink.

Bottle from Bier Tempel. I often smile to myself at the chaps in such shops frantically checking their phones for Ratebeer scores or equivalent. Content in my ’superior knowledge’ I’m normally happy to wing it...then I get home and discover my carefully sourced Fantome is green. Very green. I mean seriously, it looks more like a cocktail from the Mos Eisley cantina than a beer! Once you get beyond the green colour it’s actually quite interesting. Initially quite standard saison if you keep your eyes shut, some heavy Fantome yeast, clean, quenching, little bit of bitterness, there’s a definite lime taste, then the green tea hits towards the end with that weird end of drink palate heaviness I find from green tea related products. Reminds me a bit of the Japanse green tea cafe in Kyoto! I’d put this beer in the very interesting and good but slightly weird category.
