3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Plovmand (5746) - Helsinge, DENMARK - JUN 1, 2013
Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is peppery and light barnyard with some fruity yeasty notes. The flavor is light tart and citric with grape fruity notes. Bitter citric finish. Great on a summer day like this.

Pouring at the grand tasting at RBSG in Philly, I think Max or Andy brought this one. Pours green. The color of the old Hi-C Ecto Cooler. Looks awesome, and was the second green drink of the evening (first being a green tea nigori that I had brought). Big floral notes, spicy yeast, cha. Sweet green tea, light yeast. Floral with more sweet tea and light musk. Lingering green tea tannins. Very cool. Would love to have this again.

Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
It’s closer to a citrus soda pop than beer, surprisingly. And there’s not even a hint of the green color that the photo suggests...I looked at it with both incandescent (including halogen and xenon) and fluorescent bulbs and it’s just plain old golden yellow, no hint of green...and then I tried one last time with a second pour after agitating the bottle, but nope, still no green tinge. No green tea odor either (at least not the green teas I drink...maybe sugary green tea soft drinks, though, I dunno), but certainly an herbal character exists under the lemon-lime candy. And yes, the bottle is definitely Magic Ghost, ha. Not unpleasant, but I’m just not a fan of soda pop-ish beers.

In short: A herbal minty green beer of some kind. A strange experiment that is surprisingly sessinnable. Interesting to say the least.
How: Bottle 750ml, capped & corked. Consumed approximately 6 months after the beer release
The look: A lovely cloudy lime-like green body topped by a small beige head
In long: The unusual aromatic nose is a bit like walking in a public bathroom filled with flowers and fresh green tea. No kidding, I must have smelled the beer for 5 minutes before writing the above. There is definitely a urine component to this aroma and the green tea comes out with a fish-like character. It might sound gross but it is not, really not. The farmhouse Fantome yeast signature doesn’t comes through in the aroma. This is a totally unusual aroma and everybody will feel it in a different way. Taste is just as strange. Farmhouse character comes out a bit more in the taste. Lots of chewy bready malts. I’m a heavy drinker of green tea, at least 5 cups a day at work, and I never buy the same kind twice. Knowing that the beer uses green tea I can relate it to some of the green tea I have had in the past but if it wasn’t for the color and description of the beer I would have described its green tea flavor as some kind of fresh minty herbs dipped in lime. I don’t know how to describe this beer, really. But what’s important is that drinking a full 750ml was so pleasant that I would have opened another had I had another bottle. This is more than just a weird different beer, this is a good fun weird different beer. That beer was as peculiar as a man with a wooden leg and a real foot.

75cl bottle, corked, BB 01-2013.

Nose is nice. Dusty fruity yeast, green tea notes. Smells really good! Nice and fruity, dusty, some hay, cereal grain notes, nice green tea as well. Super cool interesting stuff. Well carbonated, very smooth.

750ml corked bottle and served in my Duvel snifter (I really need to get a Fantôme tulip but anyway)... Pours an illuminating lime green with a light green apple head and spotty lace. Yep, may be the most bizarre colored beer I ever had. The aroma has notes of green tea, pale grains, herbal and grassy hops, hint of pear and apple esters, with a hint of coriander and mint. The taste is very similar to the nose. Green tea baggy astringent notes along with lot of pils malt character. Touched by a herbal, piney and husky quality with a dash of fruit and spice. Got a touch of iron and lactic acid sourness around the edges. The mouth feel is sprite and lively, dry finish with the aforementioned astringent note. Not bad but in the realm of Fantôme brews I would put this near the bottom.

Bottle, shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Murky, sickly pale green, like an uncleaned aquarium. Not nice looking at all. Nice nose though-- surprisingly fresh, with a slightly sour apple slant. Flavours are nice too, green appleskin, light rhubarb, tart and quenching. Excellent, very refreshing! Crazy how the appearance of this beer crashed my expectations, but then tasting it brought me right back on board! Very cool.
