3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (2981) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2010
750 ml bottle courtesy of smith. Thanks! Pours a nice dark golden hue, fiery with a decent haze, nice tapering effect, with a decent offwhite head that dies to a decent film, laces ok. Aromas are a blast of sour citrus, lemon and florals, with some crisp cereal malts beneath, a touch of Berliner Weiss like tartness of grapes and lemon, moving towards faint yeast, floral and hop bitterness further in. Initial is light on the palate, cereal grains and bread mix with tart lemon, grape, and decent floral bitterness, earthy grass and weed come through, dandelion lightly discernible, as this beer is light and airy, tart and tasty, especially further in. Strikes a good balance, the malts really do come through with the tartness and bitterness of the flower coming through towards the back and growing appropriately. Finish is light, clean, tart and bitter, at 8% ABV, this beer certainly is light. Tartness wins points.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 SamGamgee (2451) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JAN 11, 2010
75cl bottle. Hazy burnt orange, almost like a sunset. This would have easily deserved a five for appearance if the head had been a little more robust. The aroma is tart, tangy, and funky with a great orange-peach fruitiness, and a peppery spiciness. The flavor is dry and lightly tart, with lots of juicy citrus, and a bit of earth funk. The floral aspects blend very well with the overall flavor, but seem to add both earthiness and fruitiness, and maybe a little bitterness in the finish if that’s not all hops. Medium-light bodied with almost medium carbonation, but not as much as I would like for this beer, and it holds it back from being the near perfect beer that it could be. Dandelions? Absolutely, based on this example. Fantastic and seamless bland of flavors and aromas. I can imagine a better-carbonated bottle, well, lets just say I’m going to need to find one of those. Fantome is quickly becoming me new favorite brewer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 illidurit (1274) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 10, 2010
Bottle courtesy SamGamgee. Pours a peach-apricot color with no head, sort of odd. Aroma is also sweet and peachy with some tartness, lemons, marmalade. Flavor is like when you get down to the pit of a peach and you’re trying to wrest every last peach fiber out of the stone. Woody, earthy, fruity, enigmatic. Another good one from Fantome.

Bottle from K&L Redwood City. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Aroma is barnyard funk, honey, sweet malt, and floral/spiced notes. Flavor is very funky, but not so much compared to other Fantome beers, with pale malt, honey, peach, and dandelions, which lend some bitterness and tartness to the beer which works very well. Medium bodied with somewhat soft carbonation. A very good saison overall.

Bottle provided by blutt59 and tasted at thirdeye11’s birthday tasting.
Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a minimal white head. Strong saison smell with some light funkiness and some citrus. The taste has a little funk and quite a bit of citrus, mainly lemon. Great drinkability and very refreshing. Very dry finish.
