COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer.
Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion “tea” that results is the basis for the Pissenlit, which is made also from traditional barley malt and hops. It resembles a classic saison beer – golden spritzy brew, strong and very flavorful, with a good hop bite. You may have to strain to taste the dandelions, but you know they’re in there.
It should be noted that uncooked, the dandelion has a diuretic effect and is known in France as Pissenlit (literally, "wet the bed" - this also happens to be the British folk-name) for precisely this reason.

Cloudy golden with a well-mannered white head that sticks around. I swear I pick up a lot of dandelions (or maybe generic flowers) in the aroma, so the brewer doesn’t lie! Taste is sweeter (or rounder) than expected but it then ends up completely dry, quite strange actually. Flavors are vegetal, flowers again with some alcohol showing. This Dany Prignon guy is quite an artist and this may be a little gimmicky, but I’m enjoying it!

Amber of color with a beige head. An aroma with sweets, wood, wet paper and weak sour. A flavor with wood, sour, bitter, dry and herbs.

Bottle 0.75 cl from the Internets (mikkellershop). Hazy orange with a yellowish thick head. Blue cheese, hints of sourness, citrus. Medium body, medium carbonation. Too much blue cheese.

Interesting aroma rich in blue cheese and stable. Hazy orange white head. Tart taste with the blue cheese and stable beeing present once again. Medium to full body, average carbonation. Don’t really care for this beer much at all, not a big fan of blue cheesse which is a main aroma and taste player in this beer.

Super cloudy orange pour with near nonexistent head. Fairly funkifed with some fruit notes and a Belgian spiciness. Lots of the same notes on the palate and the dandelion really comes out in the finish. Definitely a good brew.

08.06.2014, 0,75l bottle @ home:
Nice slightly fizzy longlasting head. Aroma is kind of floral and smoked, lightly smoked light malts, flowers, sour grass, shed, caramel, unripe banana, yeast, hay, somked ham, cheese, chalk, sugar. Taste is slightly sour-ish sweet and smoked, sour grass, hay, cheese, shed, weeds, flowers, lightly smoked light malts, chalk, yeast, sorrel, sugar. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Not really my cup of tea.
