COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer.
Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion “tea” that results is the basis for the Pissenlit, which is made also from traditional barley malt and hops. It resembles a classic saison beer – golden spritzy brew, strong and very flavorful, with a good hop bite. You may have to strain to taste the dandelions, but you know they’re in there.
It should be noted that uncooked, the dandelion has a diuretic effect and is known in France as Pissenlit (literally, "wet the bed" - this also happens to be the British folk-name) for precisely this reason.

Cloudy golden with a well-mannered white head that sticks around. I swear I pick up a lot of dandelions (or maybe generic flowers) in the aroma, so the brewer doesn’t lie! Taste is sweeter (or rounder) than expected but it then ends up completely dry, quite strange actually. Flavors are vegetal, flowers again with some alcohol showing. This Dany Prignon guy is quite an artist and this may be a little gimmicky, but I’m enjoying it!

Bottle toss via some trade extra. Thanks, bro! Pours a very turbid brown, like an aborted first batch of homebrew. Over carbonated. Flat Abbey could learn a lesson here. Aromas of spices, some dirt, perhaps a touch of week old dried lawn clippings. Taste is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Flavors of plant roots covered in dirt, failed settlers that got blown away during the dust bowl, unwashed pugs. Has a very light tartness. This may be an off batch or maybe fantome just sucks. Scroll past this tripe.

Bottle - Caramel, citrus and some herbal notes. Cloudy orange with a nice off white head. Caramel, light funky tartness and some herbs with a bitterness in the finish. Not a fan of this one.

750ml (btw green glass) bottle. Hazy, reddish amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Spicy, yeasty and citrusy fruity aroma, peppery notes, red pepper, orange zest, a herbal touch of dandelion, bitter hoppy overtones, quite penetrative overall. Taste is herbal, spicy, dandelion, pepper, caramel malty background, an alcoholic touch; very dry finish. Far from flattering, rather inaccessible, esoteric.

Willrunforbeer’s crazy afternoon cellar clean out continues! This bottle has about 15 months of age, roughly. Dark amber color with huge carbonation level that gives head. Aroma is earthy with birch root, toasted grain and some dried leaves.

This brewers beers just don’t age well at all. The brew in my glass is nothing like the brewers description. Not sure if there wasn’t another labeling error (as I have had with this brewery back in 2013) The flavor is more of a Autumn seasonal beer from a lower end American brewery. Dried leaves, caramel sweetness that turns to lingering earthy bitterness. Thin body with ample carbonation giving some pop on the tongue. I guess if this was labeled as Autumn seasonal brew maybe the score would be slightly better but we still don’t know what the hell this should be.

750mL from my cellar. Picked up at Hunger Mountain over a year ago. Pours deep ruby red with an off white head. The commercial description says it’s "golden"... What’s going on here? Aroma is dry strawberry, earth. Flavor is very dry red fruits, mild moss, grassy bitterness. I’m not sure what this is, but it’s not very good.
