COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer.
Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion “tea” that results is the basis for the Pissenlit, which is made also from traditional barley malt and hops. It resembles a classic saison beer – golden spritzy brew, strong and very flavorful, with a good hop bite. You may have to strain to taste the dandelions, but you know they’re in there.
It should be noted that uncooked, the dandelion has a diuretic effect and is known in France as Pissenlit (literally, "wet the bed" - this also happens to be the British folk-name) for precisely this reason.

Nice beer with a stange acidic touch to it. I had it after a row of stouts and it was quite a blessing.

I was expecting something different, and perhaps even better, from this beer. What I got was, to me anyway, a bland, somewhat dirty tasting belgian. I certainly don’t understand the hype.

This has a vague grassy earth smell with a sweet vanilla undertone, kind of like ’nilla wafers wrapped in lawn clippings. A very creamy, yet thin, head sits on top of a golden, slightly hazy lake, where large carbonation bubbles make lazy straight line dashes to the surface. The start is quite a bitting pine, followed by a citrus middle, then ending in a light grassy finish. It’s not a real spicy saison, but there is some interesting things going on in here.

Shared this with User_Ex who emerged from Hi Time Wine Cellar’s scrotum contracting room-sized beer refrigerator with a bottle of this stuff. Cloudy appearance. Earthy yeasty aroma. Herby, spicy , slightly acidic, ’old brown’ like taste but ’wilder’ (dirty, in a good sense). Smooth and delicious, evokes images of Belgian farm yards. Interesting hand drawn looking label that looks like it was made on an office copier.

Bottle. Pours a orange color with a white head. Nose is slight funk, citrus peel, and some yeasty aromas. Some floral aromas as well once sits in the glass for a bit. Flavor is sour, nice lemon flavors as well. Bit of funk but not overpowering, spices and a nice dry finish. Sourness lingers for a bit. Great beer.

2002 bottle. Aroma of grass, lemon, and sour yeastiness. Poured a hazy peach with a huge thick white merangue head sitting on larger bubbles. Steady carbonation throughout. Flavor was sour with lots of lemon and dandelion. Faint metallic aftertaste. Very creamy mouthfeel. Interesting and enjoyable.

Nothing wrong with this fantastic brew with a childish looking label. Opens with moderate Carbonation which fades in the glass within minutes. Taste of Floral Hops but extremely mild Hoppy taste. A slight bitterness, oweing to the Pissenlit "Dandelion", but inviting in it’s uniqueness. Tastes like a light Double Ale but much lighter in color, a sort of yellow/orange mixture. After an hour the aroma hasn’t changed but the Flowery quality is enhanced with a light spicy palate, perhaps a slight Coriander? The wash is tangy, leaving a very memorable experience!

Pours a hazy yellow orange under a creamy white head. Initial nose is mild citrus and hops with hints of mild/sweet funk. This beer tastes initially of the light sweetness of over ripe tropical fruit countered immediately by a light sourness in perfect symmetry. Very nice effect. mouth feel is surprisingly smooth for this beer. Then the complexity begins. There is a slightly bitter grassy flavor, a slightly funky sour flavor, and a slightly sweet finish. Throughout there are passing hints of spices: cloves, lemon, but none dominate and they only serve to support a light, pleasant, unusual beer.

I thought I was buying th original Fantome Saison, but as it turned out I had picked up a special release. I will get over it since I am moving near this bottle shop soon! Aroma is tart and herbal with hints of citrus. The appearance is pale and cloudy with almost no head, what there was dissipated in about five minutes. The taste is really nice and tart with citrus, earthy and floral hints. The beer leans toward the sour and not funky. The palate is very smooth and dry. Really enjoyed this beer and I hope to get again next summer.

Bright yellow color, very piss-like...lots of sediment...was a bit dissapointed here...a lot of the flavors seemed muted by the grassy aspect
