4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 xmarcnolanx (924) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - MAY 14, 2009
Abso-fucking-lutely, beautiful beer.
Tons of lemon, funk, fusty brett.
That’s about it. Taste is slightly sweet, tart lemon, brett, spices, and barnyard and a touch of piny-bitter hops.
Finish is slightly sweet, a bit of a hop bite on the finish that melds with the sweetness of the malt and the crisp lemon of the beer.
Tastes a bit like a ginger-lemon beer without the ginger and a bit of hops and larger, more complex malt backbone.
In other words, a completely different beer than the one I mentioned.
Palate is a bit cloying, but at 8 percent what can you expect?
Also very well carbonated, fizzy and slightly dry.
Yum

750ml bottle shared with BeerGestapo. Pours hazy gold with a large but quickly diminishing head. Smells of oranges, floral, hay, and a slight amount of skunkiness. The flavor was bread, lemon, and orange with a slight sour edge to it. Has a bit of sweetness to the finish with some lingering orange tones. Very nice and super refreshing despite the 8% abv.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Syd (920) - Waconia, Minnesota, USA - MAR 21, 2008
Bottle pours a straw yellow color with a big head and decent lace. The aroma has big hints of lime, funky yeast wet leather, and damp spring forest vegetation (including old growth forest floor moss). The flavor starts out sweet and malty, has some understated funky notes (almost too little), spices are there, but seems quite hoppy – and more hopped than I ever thought a Fantôme would be. I’m not sure where to put this one. This is not as wild as this brewer tends to be with the other offerings. Perhaps I’ve never had such fresh Fantôme? This is very refreshing, lively, and almost too tame. It is tasty, and very drinkable, but I want to be more challenged with this brewer.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 AskForJenny (920) - Ontario, New York, USA - APR 23, 2009
0.75l - Upon opening there was a sour aroma, then soy sauce. After a few minutes it faded to aromas of fresh cut flowers and lilacs, the smells of Spring. In the glass it looked like apple butter, the color and cloudiness. On the palate I’m not sure what I was supposed to get. There was some sour, floral notes and then dirt. Yes, dirt. This was was entertainign, but it will not be repeated.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ogglethorp (916) - Ohio, USA - JAN 2, 2007
Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden amber color with a huge, rocky white head, decent lacing. Aroma is tart fruit, yeast, grass. Flavor is floral, oranges, honey, yeast, spices. Palate is medium-light, highly carbonated, tart, super dry finish! Nice!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 arrogantb (905) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 18, 2009
Nice hazy, cloudy orange. It smells weird like spicy candy, grass, and milkweed. It tastes weird as well but interesting, like weeds and wildflowers. Overall this is just a weird beer and I can’t imagine what spices are used for this one, it was worth a try but the standard saison is much better.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Slayer85 (872) - Firenze, ITALY - JUL 3, 2008
750 ml bottle. An unclear dark golden beer with a generous, persistent, almost creamy white head. The aroma is very rich and not weak: yeasty and hoppy with notes of grass, flowers, hay, spices (pepper, maybe origan and other piquant spices), fruits. The flavour is less acidic than many other Fantomes, but obviously there are other trademarks of this brewery: the balance between the ingredients and the piquant spiciness. Medium body, lively carbonation, dry long finish with medium bitterness and no alcohol traces. Maybe less funky than other Fantomes, but well executed. Excellent.

Quite interesting. Citrus, almost minty aroma. This one is hard for me to define, which had a lot to do withmy liking it. It was just very complex, a bit sour, some fruityness, some malts, and yeast. I’d like to see what else this brewery has to offer.

A- Poured into my Duvel tulip glass. Intensely cloudy pale yellow body that is almost opaque. Pours with a large (3+) finger foamy white head that fades slowly to 1 finger and has excellent retention. The cloudiness can be seen moving throughout the glass.
S- This brew has a scent unlike any I have ever experienced with a beer before. It was honestly like stepping out into a fresh garden that is in full bloom. An array of floral scents hit the nose first followed by mellow and smooth yeast and hints of fruitiness.
T- The flavor is much like the smell. The initial taste is packed full of floral flavor with hints of ripe pale fruit (white grape, apple, citrus) and a very substantial yet mellow yeast backbone. Floral hops add a kick of bitterness to the initial flavor for the finish and some floral flavor along with sweet, smooth, bready yeast linger on the palate.
P- A Genuinely excellent mouthfeel. Low to medium carbonation with a light yet immensely smooth yeasty body.
O- I may have consumed this one in the winter but it is an excellent spring seasonal. Everything about this beer screams spring. It is a truly unique brew that I will have again when I find it again. The original saison is a solid example of the style but this brew brings saison to another level that is different but somewhat a novelty that I can’t see myself enjoying year-round.. excellent brew overall.
