Light, fruity and champagne-like. Fantôme brews special seasonal beers, never repeating a recipe from year to year. This one is for spring . . .

AshtonMcCobb (2504) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 30, 2014
Bottle shared at Brewdog Edinburgh with James Tulloch, BenH and allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden amber with a very thin head. Nose - very tangy indeed. Oranges through to lime pickle. There’s a spicy saison edge too. Taste - burnt orange to marmalade. White pepper. Palate - concentrated but the body and texture are long and tight. Overall - a very intense Saison.

Bottle at BrewDog, Edinburgh. Hazy orange body with a thin white head. Stunning aroma of mandarin and lime pickle. Flavour of honey, resin, yeast and orange. Medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. It smells better than it tastes, but this is a special beer.

Bottle at Brewdog Edinburgh.Pours hazy pale gold, no real head. Quite high carbonation. Big spice aromas, white pepper, light bready malt, lemon verbena maybe there too, something herbal. Taste is dry, more herbs and spices. Dry finish. Easy drinking. Good.

750 ml capped and corked green bottle, as Fantôme Printemps Saison (Belgian ale brewed with spices), Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8%. Orange colour, large head, slightly off-white. Interesting and unusual aroma of exotic spices, fruit and saison yeast. Quite sweet flavour, again distinct notes of exotic spices (can’t identify which ones), some fruit, a peppery bite in the finish.

Alengrin (1380) - BELGIUM - AUG 15, 2014
The spring version in this series and again (frustratingly...) changing recipe each year. Orange blonde with snow white head, cloudy, with a very fruity, yeasty aroma, soft maltiness, exotic fruits, dryish and a bit earthy, funky accent in the finish, bit sourish, spicy. Complex and fascinating like all of Danny Prignon’s beers.
