4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 into trusty Duvel glass. I must confess: I’ve neglected Fantome until now. I was exposed to Fantome in my beer geek infancy, and I wasn’t ready. Too funky, too weird. Now, I don’t think it’s weird at all, simply beautiful. Uncorked this one with a pop and was immediately assailed by the funk. A nose in the glass discovers snappy carbon dioxide released from the bubbles and yeasty acidity I associate with older, well-aged bottles of Orval. As it warms, dark twiggy things come out in the smell. Flavor and texture in this piece are perfectly married. Initially there’s a rush of limey acid, mouthwatering, riding the tickling carbonation. The middle stays juicy, but other things come to play too. It doesn’t get bogged down in cottony yeastiness like other wild brews, but rather the cardamom and light spiciness stays light and vibrant. The finish is long and lingering, and different waves of flavors drop in to visit: honeydew, lightly buttered bread, light sea salt. Awesome.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a hazy orange body with a medium white head. Nose is citric peel, lime, oranges, straw, pale malts, hay and hints of herbs and vanilla. Taste is strong citric peel notes, bitter mineral tones, grains, hay and hints of pale malts, bitter herbs and clementines. Medium body and carbonation. Fresh, but rather citric-bitter and somehow weird. Not quite my favorite, I have to say.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Belgiuminabox.com. Lightly hazy, pale gold. Film of lasting, white head. Wow. Medicinal. Clove. Sticking plaster. Star Anise. A lot of Fantome in there, beyond the bonkers. Taste is fairly sweet. Bready dry. Lots of body. Easy drinking, soft, airy palate. Finishes with more of the clove thing. Bitter close, that lasts well. It’s a Fantome. It’s a bit bonkers. Very nice. Gets more bitter as it goes along.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. January 2015.
BBD: have to check, but it was quite fresh.
In short: "balsamic" saison.
Pours very hazy deep gold-orange with frothy off white head. Short head retention, good lacing. Balsamic nose, some cardamom, coriander one. Medium body, average carbonation, some crispy texture. Taste is litle sour, herbal, again the balsamic flavours. A bit palate saturating and dry.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm - thanks again, Chris! Pours a barely cloudy yellow-gold with a small white head. I immediately get a strong Band-Aid note out of this one, almost to the extent of burning rubber and plastic, with notes of lemon citrus, herbs, bready malts, mint, juniper, and grass. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and a mouthfeel that is both artificial and plastic-like, and herbal and clean. It’s simultaneously compelling and off-putting. One of the more intriguing beers I’ve had in a while, but so strange.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle, from Dutch’s. Shared with friends. Cloudy orange golden color. Thin white head. Dots and ropes of lace. Interesting aroma. Friends are saying band-aid, but I’m not sure that I’ve smelled enough bandaids to pick up on that. I get some peach, and maybe something latexy and unnatural in there, not too bothersome though, more interesting... Ok starting to get a hint of bandaid in there. Flavor is more of what I described above.. Kind of smokey, big bandaid, spice, and peach. Something like burning plastic. Moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Light bit of bite in the end. Really grows on me as I go. Interesting tasty stuff. So unique, can’t really put my finger on exactly what I like about it, but I dig it. A bigger unique yeastier flavor.. Yeast seems to contribute to a bit of a bite on the finish, but I dig the flavor. Great full chewier body. Tasty stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Orange hazy, massive beige head. Smell of carraway, clove, thyme, other mediterrian spices from the provence district, yeast esters and light malts. Moderate sweet, distinct herbs and spices, fruity yeast flavors, some fruit peel as well. Moderate bitter, herbs all over the place. Superb and different, would work quite well with italian pizza and pasta dishes. Another great saison from Fantôme!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
OCZY : piwo jest mętne o kolorze pomarańczowym z złocistymi prześwitami. Piana piwa jest spora i bardzo trwała.
NOS : piwo ma zapach tarty, kwiatów dzikiej róży, lawendy, nasion kolendry, maki pszenicznej, pomarańczy lub bardziej dyni...ogólnie bardzo złożony aromat.
USTA : piwo ma spore nasycenie i średnio gęstą konsystencje. Miękkie i kremowe.
smak : 7/10
pijalność : 7/10
styl : +1

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Odd, peppery, plasticky-medicinal aroma. Smells like you might rub it on a cut. Foggy blonde. Thin white head. Tastes like antiseptic, spicy, slightly mineral and sour. Lightish body, astringent finish. Didn’t finish the sample. Thanks to someone for sharing this at Baby Proof.
