3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20 Fred82 (1824) - Montreal, - OCT 5, 2010
750ml bottle from Winooski.
Appearance : Hazy pale yellow.
Aroma : Very weird fruity-ish. Makes me think of the Jolly Ranchers candy. Light piny notes. A bit citrusy. Light cough syrup. Lots of lime.
Taste : Candy-ish Jolly Ranchers. Notes of mint, light banana, fruits and lime. A bit medicinal. Carbonation is really soft.
Overall : Ok this is the weirdest Fantôme I’ve had yet. Nose is very weird yet very appealing. Taste is not as good as the nose but still interesting. This is my best Fantôme so far.

Bottle: pours cloudy lemonade, reasonable white ring. Nose: smells like lemon heads candy, light Belgian yeast, wheat, barnyard. Rich chewiness on the palate. Interesting lemon flavors, backed by a quick smoke flavor, then more traditional esters, Saison sweet malts, white pepper, coriander and then a sourness on the finish. Interesting and grew on me.

75cl bottle.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FURLYSURIOUS (195) - Orono, Minnesota, USA - APR 5, 2012
This was a lucky find in the back of one of my local bottle shops. Pours a bright honey gold with needlepoint, slow beading. About a finger of head swells and then subsides to a milky ring around the glass. The aroma is very inviting - banana, clove, tons of ester and earthy funk. Some medicinal herbal qualities. The taste is balanced and soft. Alcohol is extremely well hidden in the sweet bread and esters. Not the tangy, sharp finish that can be associated with a fresh saison. This is very smooth. Very drinkable. I’d really love to compare with a fresh bottle.

I just ran a marathon this morning and it’s spring. If I need another excuse to drink this beer, its label is mostly green and yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day. So why not pop open a $16 bottle of beer? Pours bright orange-golden, hazy with a lovely white head. Nose, like many Fantome beers, is odd and intriguing. Some almost hash-like herbal notes on top of sweet canned peaches and more traditional saison aromas. Apricots. Also some rubbery smells. Not really like any beer (or smell I’ve experienced). Some lemon as well. Taste adds a slightly tangy element, and a hint of metal. Weird but good... which is what I generally expect from this great brewery.

750 ml bottle thanks to my friend Kenny, who generously brought me a box of assorted Saisons to enjoy! Pours a hazy pale gold with a thin-moderate white head that lasted through the first two sips and left light lace. Pleasant aroma that is lightly tart and sour with a few notes of funk. Some lemon in the nose as well. The flavor is light malt with lemon and tangerine, lightly tart and sour, again with just a bit of funk. Bright on the palate with active carbonation. Enjoyable.

Bottle shared by Dave in between stops during RBWG 2012, thanks Hazy yellow with a medium sized white head and some lacing. Tart fruit, citrus and clover. Nice and easy drinking.

hazy gold, frothy white head, heavy lacing. Nose is dandelion, light sage and dust, very herbal. Flavor is floral, heavy citrus rind with some lightly oversweet orange, bit of pepper. High carbonation, decent overall with a lot of balance and interplay, missing a unique note that so many Fantome have.

Had this at Ratebeer’s Horny Devil Pittsburgh Winter Tasting 2012. Big thanks to mrchopin for this brew. Very clear pale yellow with a thin head that fades rapidly. Mild and easy going aroma. This beer, on the palate, goes down very easy. A gentleman per se. Fun and friendly, you would never know it was 8%! Overall very gooed beer drinken experience. I really liked this brew. Some saisons are just too much in your face, this never was.

This poured a slightly hazy yellow color with a white head. Aroma was herbal and dusty, some bret in there, as well as some musty smells too. Flavor wwas brighter than the aroma would suggest, still fairly spiced, and some bret notes, dry but some fruit too. Another nice saison from Fantome.
