4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Small white head, disappears quick and leaves some islands on top of a hazy orange colored beer.
Smell is a crispy mix of yeasty fruit tones, funk, herbs, light sour, a great promissing mix.
Taste is funky bit like a geuze/lambic, herbs, wheat, lemon, citrus, crisp, light hoppy, spices, wheat, some light malts and again funky.
Hop funk: delicious
Funky herby spicy wheat crispy aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to more fuller body and a light creamy texture.
Deliciouse funky beer!

Another entry from notes. Bottle traded for and shared at Fantomefest 2014. Cloudy sunglow yellow in color with some soapy head around the edges of the glass. Nose and flavor are closely interwined. There is a lot of soft peach/stone fruit tartness that finishes with a fair amount of earthy, dank funk. Medium mouthfeel despite it’s rather delicate flavor with good carbonation and a pleasant, enduring finish. One of the shining stars of the tasting, a real treat to drink.

Don’t know how to describe this, it’s kind of a saison, with a sour body. Reminds me of a tardy wine as well. Weird, but very good.

Bomber. Thanks to Takahara for this. Sharp and immediate stink: sewer and sauerkraut, sour grass, with a tiny sweetness in the background. Cloudy light copper color. Big puckering initial: sour pears and fermented cabbage / sour fruit continues, and apple and apricot notes emerge, some leather, too. / finish has trickling sourness, which fades out like fog in the morning sunshine. Lovely.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Starts as a clear orange amber; after pouring the yeast fond it becomes darker, unclear and rather beige, inbetween amber and brown. Quite a bit of visible carbonation.
The nose is mildly sour with some fruity touches, a bit vinous.
The taste starts out mostly sour but in a pleasant way, almost hinting of geuze-like sourness but with more punch to it and fewer earthy notes (and with carbonation on the tongue) and a balanced dose of spices, decent bit of hop bitterness as well. It feels more alcoholic than most other Fantômes, though this might be because of the yeast having transformed any residual sugars.
Once you get to the yeasty bottom, there’s less sourness and it shifts from a saison to a typical amber, still well-balanced but more present spices, now a solid dose of alcohol.
An excellent apéritif, less easily drinkable and somewhat stranger in balance than your typical Fantôme saison but in return it packs more power.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell, London during the Birthday Celebration of Jack & Leighton - many thanks to Paul for supplying the Fantome; it’s just not a real party until the Fantome starts a pourin’. Pours cloudy, orange-gold with a fine, fading white head. Tangy orange citrus aroma with sugary, pale bread. Big sweet falvor with further notes of lightly tangy citrus, and mild orange peel bitterness. Full bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with moderate dry citrus fruits, some dough, sugar, faint yeast. Decent. Very drinkable for the ABV.

Bottle - big thanks to Paul at Jack and Leightons birthday pleasantries, 13/04/13.
Heavily hazed golden orange with wee floaters to keep me company.
Nose is tarte fruits, sour tones, lemon rind, light sugar, bitter orange, sour peaches, farmyard.
Taste comprises a good level of funk, soured fleshy fruits, burnt notes, lemon rind, spice.
Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, dry in the finish.

Bottle. Cheers to monsieur Scopey for supplying this. This apparently had been aged a few years. The pour’s hazy amber with a small head. The aroma’s tart underripe melon, some lemon and peaches. Light farmhouse funk. The taste is tart apple cider. A bit of lactic acid. Mild warhead candy acidity. Wheaty funk. Light body. Fine carbonation. Overall, this seems to have developed some interesting flavors. Nice.

Bottle (a few years old) shared at Jack & Leighton’s birthday celebration. It pours hazy golden yellow with a small white head. The nose is hay, floral, earth, light vinegar, sweat, sour apple and apricot. The taste is pleasantly tart, floral, hay, some vinegar, touch of sweetness, lemon, sour peach, apricot and some sherbet with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Not sure if its meant to be this sour, but it’s tasty nonetheless.
