COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

2011-02-06. Hazy dark golden yellow with a frothy white head. 4+ Aroma is yeasty over grassy straw notes. Flavour is dry at times, fairly bitter, grassy hop character, mild pale malt core with light grainy/wheat accents. Alcohol is essentially non-existent. 7+ Average palate is pleasantly carbonated. On the mild side at times, but very enjoyable. Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels.

This is fantastic stuff. Some where in between a lambic and a saison. Smooth very drinkable, spicy, complex. Serving: Bottle

Bottle. Golden, hazy, small and fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and sourish dry aroma, light fruitiness and citrus. Body is medium, malty and dry flavor, lightly spicy (pepper), light citrus, light hoppyness and alcohol. Finish is average, malty and dry, light spiciness and alcohol, faint citrus. Comparing to other products from the brewery, this one has very little of everything (sourness/spiciness/fruitiness/hoppyness), big disappointment .

Pours hazy honey color. Bitter spicy aroma. A touch of alcohol in the nose too. Flavor is awesomely sour with a lot of honey and a lot of floral hop without too much bitterness. A fruitty sweetness as well. Great body. Awesome beer.

Cloudy pale straw color with a huge, rocky white head. Very fresh and zingy aroma of orange and lemon zest and flowery hops. Light hints of spice. Flavour is just an explosion of tangy orange zest. Lively carbonation and a small to medium body full of flavour makes this beer truly refreshing.

A: snifter. Completely cloudy, straw yellow color with a nice effervescent solid white head on top with a great retention rate. Very good lacing from this as well. S: wonderful sour orangey citrus aroma. Tons of spices in this, especially clove. Small esters of bananas as well. T: it tastes like the lemonade at carnivals. Wonderful lemon zests, with a nice sweetness from the malts. A decent hop character. The finish is slightly sweet, like cotton candy. Total carnival beer. Wow, is all I can say. M: Mild carbonation level. Smooth and very crisp. Medium body. Outstanding palate with the zest form the lemon. D: is it drinkable? I am pissed I only got one bottle. It is amazing. Worth a try at least, especially if you like saisons.

750 ml bottle; clear straw gold with 1” egg-white head fading slowly; pears, apricots, faint sour funk on the nose; a little peppermint too; fizzy mouthfeel with oranges, grapefruit, lemon peels, dull malt; creamy smooth with light fruity texture; has a rawness and staleness to it; clean, light and smooth; this bottle seems a little dull with some minor aspirin flavor; not popping in fruity freshness as the bottle I had a few weeks back at Ebenezer’s (supposedly bottle only a few weeks); funkiness is not too pronounced but a good does of dusty malt and light fruit; yummmmm; the standard for a fruity, funky saison and there’s nothing else like it

Original Rating 9/4/09 (Score - 4.3): draft @ Brouwer’s Big Wood - a perfect beer after countless wood aged brews; cloudy orange with foamy white head; thick, fruity, yeasty nose; creamy body with sweet fruit and yeast but finish quite dry; mild sourness and floral nose develops; the fruity sweetness is what carries this one; killer brew

750ml capped & corked bottle courtesy of secret santa aka lushawn. thanks, shawn! pours a gorgeous, pale gold with a creamy, finely carbonated cap of white foam and light lacing. aroma is awesome with a one-of-a-kind balance of dusty, farmhouse basement, barnyard, and light funk with sweet peach skins, citrus, apricots, and floral esters with a touch of white pepper. flavor is delicious as well with tropical fruit notes joining peaches, white grape, and lemon citrus with dry grass, sweet yeast, and light barnyard funk with hints of spice and banana esters on the back end. palate is medium bodied, crisp, and very refreshing with not a trace of the 8% abv a dry, fruity finish. overall, one of the top world class saisons out there.
