COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Golden pour with a tall, fizzy, white head that fades to a ring of lace. The aroma is soft layers peach. apple, bread, candi sugar, banana, clove, pepper, and lots of farmhouse funk. The flavor has lots of light citrus zest and granny smith apples upfront with a gentle and sweet bready Belgian ester laden middle. It finishes with lots of peppery phenols and more of that great barnyard funk. Creamy medium body with delicate champagne like carbonation.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep orange color with a big vanishing white head. Aroma is delicious with light sourness and balance between malt, yeast and hops. Notes of flowers, grass, citrus, with hints of pepper too. The flavour has the same balance and acidity of the aroma and a very pronounced fruitiness (citiric and tropical fruits), and grass, flowers, hops and some peppery spiciness. Medium body, lively carbonation, very dry long finish with medium bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden. Fantastic complexity, very quenching with great drinkability.

Bottle: Pours a nice cloudy golden color. A little yeasty aroma. A very well balanced and smooth taste. Alcohol is well hidden.

Had with James. Pour is a hazy medium orange. Little white head. Aroma is sour citrus and yeast. Hints of farmhouse funk. Flavor continues that farmhouse funk with nice citrus balances. Sweet Saison.

750 mL bottle. The beer pours to a clean yellow body with a starch white head. The aroma is lemony and funky. Sort of like a gueuze, but not quite. Really complex things going on in the aroma. Divine. The flavor is lemony, hay, and a light funky gueuze-like thing. Quite nice. Nothing like I’d think. The palate is clean and crisp and really hides the 8%. Wow! What a surprise.

A: The pour is a hazy burnt orange color with a towering white head that finally dies down to a thin layer of foam that clings to the glass. S: The nose is slightly funky with excellent citrus notes. I pick up some lemons and lots of oranges and tangerines along with a sweet and bready malt base. Various spices add some extra depth. T: The sweet citrus notes are quite vibrant on the front end. Lots of tangerine, oranges, and a hint of grapefruit. There is a mild spice note quickly behind along with a slight grassy and earthy character. A bit of alcohol comes through on the finish, especially as the beer warms up. M: The body is medium, but really has a nice feel on the tongue. The carbonation pricks the tongue initially but becomes smooth soon after. D: Another very nice beer from Fantome. I like some of the others a bit better, but as the "flagship", this one does a fine job.

Pours a bright translucent golden orange with a small, short-lived white head that recedes to a small collar and leaves little lacing. The aroma is complex and starts with a combination of flowers and juicy citrus. Lemon rinds and light spices mixed in as well as a nice earthy funk underlying the whole thing. Wonderful smell. The taste is almost as good with the citrus hitting up front with tart lemons but giving way quickly to an earthy backbone with wildflowers and spicy Belgian yeast. The finish is tart and dry with a bit of funk. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, dry and lightly carbonated. This is an excellent saison with the floral and citrus character melding with the earthiness, leaving a dry vinous finish.

760ml Bottle shared by SoLan. Pours a cloudy orange color. Nose is citrus, funk and slight sourness. Nice earthy aromas mixed with the citrus. Taste is the same as the nose with citrus, apricot and orange peel flavors, with some good funk. Nice acidity to it as well. Great beer.
