COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy apricot color with a fizzy head and quite a bit of carbonation sticking to the sides of the glass. Aromas are an interesting mix of a kind of buttery and honey sweetened malt with a not-quite ripe peach or nectarine sour edge. Flavor is pretty nice... the slightly under-ripe nectarine flavors are interesting enough to let me forget the kind of buttery malt that sometimes turns me off with saisons... this is pretty good, but still is one of my less favorite categories...

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours opaque, dark golden with a thick, lingering head. Aroma of light fruits, citrus, Belgian yeast, and an earthiness. Flavor the same, almost like fruit loops. Creamy texture. A really unique beer.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy deep orange with a small and not lasting white head. The aroma is delicious with its light sourness and the balance between malt, yeast and hops. Notes of flowers, grass, citrus, hay and light peppery hints. The flavour has the same balanced acidity of the aroma and a very pronounced fruitiness (citiric and tropical fruits), and grass, flowers, hay from the hops plus some peppery spiciness. Medium body, lively carbonation, very dry long finish with medium bitterness. The alcohol is well hidden. Fantastic complexity, very quenching with great drinkability.

Bottle, 2 years old. We didn’t expect the best, but: Aroma: cereal, floral, citrus, clove, sour Appearance: cloudy, orange, minimal head, white foam, Taste: light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, salty, Palate: medium body, oily feel, fizzy, bitter, long finish, Avery good saison indeed. A little bit funky

Golden colored with a moderate head but thin for the style. Yeasty funk, flowers, lemons, musty barn notes in the aroma. The flavors are citrusy with plenty of oranges and tangerine along with very light spice and dust. A sour twang in the finish. Honestly, this isn’t nearly as good as expected. Where’s all the Fantome funk? In a strange way it tastes like a watered down orange or fruit juice. The flavors are thin and watery. Lacks complexity. There has to be someting wrong with this bottle because this wasn’t very impressive at all.

Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors.
It pours a cloudy gold with a decent frothy white head. Good head retention, but not much in the way of lacing. The nose has more going on than I am used to in a saison. Note of yeast, slight florals, a bit of hay, some definite fruitiness, and a slight unexpected tartness. The first taste serves as a surprise too as this one seems to be a hybrid between a light sour and a saison. You have the light mouthfeel of a saison, but not quite as light or as dry. You have a little fruity tartness (the apricot that others have mentioned seems appropriate) on the sour side, but not too much. Each sip leaves you with that hmmmm... sort of feeling, drawing you in to take another sip. This brew is a question who’s answer lies somewhere in the bottom of the glass. Light in body with high carbonation and a slightly tart, clean finish. I can see why this brew is so highly rated. I know I’m getting another bottle!

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip. Color is murky pale orange/gold with thin frothy white head. Aroma is bready malt, spices, barnyard yeast, sweet fruit (apricots), and citrus (orange & lemon). Taste is sweet and slightly tart/sour. Mouthfeel is light/medium, with very crisp and lively carbonation. Very interesting, yet delicious saison!

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Would get again fo sho. wiihtout question my favorite saison, moderate carbonation, lots of pepper and spicy fruity esters, medium body, not as dry as most, vwery drinkable. complex, with slight hint of tart funk.
