COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Just arrived at my beershop. Actually labeled Biere Artisanale Sur Lie (rather than Saison). Pours a nice pale gold with a small, quick fading white head. Has a nice yeasty aroma with hints of apricots. Pleasantly sweet upfront with loads of orange and some slight sour notes. Great body and carbonation. Finishes both fruity and tart, yet with a funky and spicy palate. Nice to try a newer bottling. Will be going back for more - another great one from Fantome.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2010 Bottle, very fresh according to our barman at the Lion’s Pride, without a vintage on it though. Pour is light yellow with some white head. Aroma is super fruity. I got hit by a wave of strawberry aromas along with fresh lemons, followed closely by an underlying farmyard/funkiness. Some underlying grainy/bread dough/yeast notes complete the aroma. Taste is surprisingly fruity, with a nice light sour lemony finish. It tastes pretty much like it smells, a feat such a bouquet left me thinking impossible. Palate is just beautiful as well, nice lively belgian saison carbonation that is not overdone. The yeasty components provided a rich taste, full palate and a fine balance which made this one so drinkable despite being very intense, aromatic and complex. The best beer I’ve ever had thus far (rating no 447).

Bottle. Aroma of herbs and grass like a meadow in full bloom. Light carbonation. Very drinkable but complex if you like it to be!

: Cloudy orange, golden body. Bubbly white skim. The rim has a metallic sheen as the bubbles rise. They shimmer as they explode on the surface. Very little lacing. S: Green apples. Green apples. Green apples. Lemon and other citrus scents dance over top a wheat base. Slightly sour and tart. A little yeast pops out. T: This is an interesting and unique brew. Fantôme really has it nailed here. Lots of green apples and lemon from the nose carry over. The wheat is soft and delicate. The yeast is sublime. M: Light-medium body. Super crisp finish. Dry and refreshing. Tingly on the tongue. D: Off the charts. A must have for any saison fan.

750ml bottle. Opened this during a 4th of July celebration and split with the g/f. Poured into Night of the Living Ales tasting glasses. A - Pours a mirky orange/yellow, white frothy head, lots of bubbles here and there, good lacing and a nice cap left on top after everything settles down. S - Slight funk/tart, farmhouse, grassy, fruits, lemon citrus. Lots going on here, very impressive, more complex then I was expecting. T - More funk/tart then the nose, by far. Oranges, lemon, pineapple for the sweetness. Sour/tart, farmhouse funk, earthy, grassy. All very-well done...everything just goes together perfectly. I don’t detect any of the 8% ABV...none. It’s like drinking a wonderfully complex fruit-juice with funk. M - Light, crisp, refreshing, dry finish. D - So easy to drink. My g/f and I demolished this bottle. The pinnacle for this style, by a long-shot. A must-have in my cellar.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a little bit of funk with some citrus notes as well as green apple. The flavor is green apples.spices, lemons, wheat and some light tartness. Thin mouthfeel and medium to high carbonation. A excellent saison.

A-pours a hazy golden yellow, deep and beautiful with a creamy dense white head. S-spicy belgian yeast, hint of medicinal phenol and a good herbal tea presence behind. lots of citrusy aromas, tons of mango, tangerine and orange. T-the taste is quite nice and follows the nose, spicy yeast, almost not present but just a touch of medicinal phenol, light herbal notes, tons of tripical fruits, mango, tangerine and orange. M-medium bodied with a strong carbonation but not at all overpowering. a good clean crisp finish that has a great dry aspect to it to complement the juicy tropical fruit flavors. D-this is very good, there is a slight metallic/medinical phenol aspect that takes away slightly. without that this would be close to perfection!
