Tenderstone (25), Renton, Washington, USA May 4, 2008 This beer was FANTASTIC!
Poured an amber color with red sediment swirling around like a little asteroid field. Nice foamy white head, that dissipated by the time I had gotten my eyeful. Scent was of peach, with notes of alcohol. Flavors included cantaloupe, apple, and grape. Lightly dry finish that is not overly dry. Worth a second bottle to have on hand. beerbill (1917), Laurel, New York, USA May 3, 2008 750 ml bottle shared with my wife. Pours a cloudy pale gold with a large white head that lasted through most of the glass and left lots of lace as the head receded.Very pleasant aroma of lemon, lighty yeast, with some subtle sour notes detected as well. Very flavorful with lemon, tart apples, cloves and yeast all present. Refreshingly effervescent and light on the palate. A delightful saison. downender (2528), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England May 3, 2008 Bottle from Bier Mania, Brussels. Clear gold colour with a slight white head. Aromas of apples and peardrops with some cinnamon spice. Flavour was slightly sweet, with some citrus, yeast and floral hops. Good. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 1, 2008 With a pop of the cork and fizz in the glass rose a 24 karat brew with mixed citrus and spice. Lemon, orange, tangering, grapefruit, and banana make it onto the palate. Definitely better as it warms, mild sweetness but predominantly sour and earthy. The belgian yeast shines on this one. satan165 (540), River Grove, Illinois, USA Apr 28, 2008 aroma clobbers the actual flavor....scents of orange, lemon, other citrus....rock candy i presume, strange fruits combine into something reminicent of rubber/plastic (dont mean that nearly as critical as it sounds)....flavor isnt dry or yeasty like a normal saison at all, almost metallic and flat on the pallette, then sweetness reveals itself in the form of citrus and slight floral character echoed from the aroma. this is the most unique aroma ive experienced in a long time, maybe ever. i was excited to try this after hearing so much, it didnt dissapoint. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a clear golden yellow color with a nice frothy white 2 finger head.
S- Smell is sweet with tons of spices and funk. A little subtle but I can definitely tell where it is going.
T- Very fruity, with distinctly belgian spices, much hoppier than I was expecting.
M- Light, crisp, dry.
D- This is a fairly drinkable brew. I have never been a huge fan of the saison style but this is my favorite of the few that I have had. The hop presence really helps me enjoy this one.
KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Apr 26, 2008 Hazy golden with medium head. Spicy and fruity aroma with yeasty notes. Sweet and spicy flavor with lemon and yeasty notes. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle.
Pours a hazy rich orange-tinged gold with a nice fluffy white head. Tart aroma (pineapple and pear, citrus), mild rustic notes. The flavor is driven heavily by a sort of tangerine and muscat fruitiness that I didn’t expect; sour but not strongly so, sweet from the tangerine and laced with orange peel and spice. Easy drinking but with a satisfying full mouthfeel. For me this one wasn’t quite as dry or quite as rustic as some of my favorite saisons, instead quite strong on the spices and fruit, but it was nevertheless a very enjoyable and interesting beer. I’m quite curious at this stage to see how my second bottle changes in character with a few more years on it.
