eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 11, 2006 A very nice example of the style. Initial aroma from the bottle was skunky and funky. That settled down to just the usual funk after the pour with some peppery notes. The pour was pretty, lots of carbonation, lots! The head was great and the lacing solid, and the body fairly clear up until the end of the bottle, when the yeasties were unleashed into my glass (yum!). The flavor was rich and deep, nice smooth wheaty and funky base to the beer with some definite pepper and spices in there. Full-bodied saison, very nice. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 8, 2006 Pours a surprisingly clear gold color with a fluffy white head. The appearance is the least impressive thing about this beer. Wonderfully funky aroma. Notes of what I have come to know as "horseblanket" and a little bit of light citrus. Insanely complex flavor with notes or citrus, simple spicey hops, straight funk and a bitter finish. This is that good shit. That funky garage shit. That frustrating shit that seems simple enough that you could make yourself but you can’t. Just the other day I decided that I don’t like people that don’t like Fantome. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Jun 7, 2006 Bottled. Hazy yellow colour with mediumsized whiute head. Barnyardish aroma with acidic fruity hints. Acidic citric flavour with earthy hints. Very dryish and a bit sticky in an acidic way in the aftertaste. Aroma is light, mysical, honey-coriander. Beer has gold aura from within, orangish haze. white proper foam. Flavor is spiced, light sweetness, slight skronk-funk, seems to be a characteristic of some of these saisons, or it could also be the green bottle. A little "meh." Does not tate like 8% at all but feels like it. Some fruitiness, suspect I either don’t like this style/brewer style as much as others, or have bad luck with these green bottles. GG (1609), NorCal, California, USA May 22, 2006 Outstanding!! I’m so glad I had the chance to have this. I’ve had their Black Ghost but somehow I think this was even better! Spicyness in the nose along with a good bit of burn. Sweet with a nice fruit side to it. Mouthfeel was medium bodied. Flavor were fairly complex with notes of fruit, spices, pepper, sour, sweet and tart all rolled into one. One of the best saison’s I’ve had. Really, really good. hopheadsean (1), newark, Delaware, USA does not count May 15, 2006 A true Belgian farmhouse ale. Nice golden color with a slight haze. Earthy flavors with a citric/sour taste. A true classic for this style. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA May 10, 2006 Bottled. Cloudy wit colored beer. Very floral nose with a slight tartness evident. Flavors are lemon grass and tart apple. Dry, musty finish.
