Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2006 Finding a good saison can be a lot like rolling a handfull of one-sided dice with snake eyes. A lot of it is just silly. SPF45, for example. I’m not one to clamor around something for it’s notoriety, and that was a gross let down. This stuff, however, rocks the saison boat old style. Nothing fancy, no berries or seeds or any of that other experimental crap. Straight forward belgian with spicy notes, fine bubbles and a good alcohol turnout. I wish I could afford to see what this would do to me after a dozen glasses, but, alas, it’s friggin expensive. I think this was my favorite drink of the 12 Hour Belgian Beer Party a few months ago. I say THINK because, let’s face it, if you remember the 12 Hour Belgian Beer Party then you didn’t have that great a time. ghorsche (48), Berkeley, California, USA May 1, 2006 750ml bottle. Poured a lovely irridescent cloudy pale gold with a lasting foamy white head. Very yeasty nose, sweet & sour with tangy cherries and other bright fruit character. Crazy flavor! Tart and very fruity, sour cherries and just-underripe pineapple. A little spicy. Dominated by yeast-derived flavors. Finish starts buttery and becomes tart and bone-dry. Medium palate, gentle and velvety with an exciting sour/alcohol twang. A treat for lovers of weird, yeasty, sour beers ;-) sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 1, 2006 750ml bottle. Hazy golden hue. The carbonation shot the cork out of the bottle. White head. Grassy and barnyard nose. Also fruity, yeasty, citrus aromatic notes. Sweet bready yeast flavor. Citrus and orange. Full, sticky and zesty. Dry with a long, slightly bitter finish. Good hop note. Chalky and cloying, but in the best possible way. Still good lacing head and the hops increase as the glass diminishes. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Apr 26, 2006 75 cl bottle. Yeast at the bottom. Golden cloudy colour with a weak fizzy head. Lovely aroma of fruit, yeast sourness and ends in are very pleasant way. Also smooth and pleasant flavour of sweetness, yeasty and little sour, very nice and well made endeed. Hunsell (400), Amsterdam, Netherlands Apr 14, 2006 Probably a well-aged bottle. Pours orangecoloured with persisting head. Sweet fruity aroma with lots of peaches. Very nice wellbalanced sweet taste, tastes fresh and alive. Soft carbonation, good mouthfeel. Highly recommended. thornecb (1735), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 13, 2006 Pours bright gold into a tulip. Earth and dough notes. Sour/sweet orange peel in the barnyard. Lively (not bubbly) and slick. Dry, bitter yeast finish that was medium in length. rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA Apr 12, 2006 I wonder if I got a bad bottle. A mild aroma and taste of herbs, a slight lemony sourness. Very little maltiness--like a pilsner even. Nothing was going on in this beer ,and I was bored with such a huge bottle (that cost $10). BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 12, 2006 750 mL bottle from Ernest. This gem displays a slightly murky straw yellow with a small fizzy white head and some spotty lacing. Aroma is yeast (farm, earth, dough) and sour lemon, golden malt (straw, hay, meal) and trace fruits (pear, green apple, grape). Initially tart and medium acidity, slight sweetness peeks through, yeast and malt dominate the finish. Medium to light bodied, easy drinking with a smooth mouthfeel.
