bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Apr 11, 2006 Bottle. Amber beer with a whitish head. Yeasty, orange/lemon aroma with spice and honey. Orange honey spice flavor with good malt backing. Light and sublle but very well balanced. Great beer. Lighter carbonation than expected. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Apr 7, 2006 750mL bottle. A very hazy, dull honey/gold pour with a thick, fizzy off-white head on top. A very appetizing aroma of sour lemons, oranges, strawberries, wheat, yogurt, lots of that typical barnyard funk and something similar to Swedish Fish or Sour Patch Kids candy. Carbonation is pretty high, yet doesn’t really detract from this flavor-packed brew. Lots of sweet/sour fruits and tanginess upfront. Lemons and strawberries abound. Very wheaty and tart. Just the teensiest hint of alcohol. Finishes with a slightly bitter tanginess that dries the mouth out a little. Fantome can just do no wrong in my book. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 7, 2006 after about a year of hanging on to this,i decided to drink it.when i did i dumped it into a snifter and was shown a murky orange body with a nice thick white head.as the head sat it left a nice lacing on the glass.i held the glass to my nose and caught a mix of hose blanket, sour fruit, and a bit of hops.the flavor was much in the same.the more "barnyard" brews i drink the more that i like them.this is taking me more tward that "funky’barnyard" style. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Apr 4, 2006 750ml - Aroma is pungent and funky. Yeasty and spicy with the barnyard funk you’d expect from Fantome. Pours transparent yellow with constant bubbles, a huge head with great lacing. Flavor is citrus, yeast, and just the right amount of spice. Palate is tart. Another great saison from Fantome JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Apr 4, 2006 750 ml bottle. Poured a slightly cloudy blonde color with a thinnish head. Aroma is flowery and citrusy. Flavor is slightly tart and fruity, but is very subtle. Nothing about this brew is overpowering, but it was very drinkable. JugOPunch (77), Nashua, New Hampshire, USA Apr 3, 2006 750 ml bottle: A citrus almost vinous aroma and slightly tart. A great sunburst orange pour. The taste was citrus and a bit ciderish with a mild carbonation. As it warmed, the cider character mellowed out and it became a smooth citrus and slightly spicy treat. Good body and mouthfeel. Not much alcohol presence except a touch in the beginning. Very good. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Apr 3, 2006 Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a small white head. Fruity spicy aroma. Yeasty fruity, spicy and a little firey flavor. Sweet fruity aftertaste. murrayswine (101), Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 27, 2006 Bear with me, this is my first Saison.
The Aroma hit me like an herbal freight train. Extremely heady and sharp. Sharp tones of green olives and vinegar.
A golden brew with a good fog and a tight, clean, cotton head. The head stayed tight and you can see yeast floating in the glass.
On the tasting I was hit with an overpowering coriander and citrus zest. I can taste the superior craft in this beer, but wit the spice in it, you might as well add a lemon to a hefe weisen and call it even. The mouth feel is light and nice with a silk finish. If you like heady HW’s, then go for it.
