Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle. Pours a lush, cloudy gold with a frothy head. Aroma is spikes of citrus and hops. Taste is a mixture of diluted orange juice and grapefruit. Finish is crisp and subtle, but it lingers nicely on the tongue. Palate is deceptively thin, as it coats the tongue with a citrusy lacquer type finish. Nice earthy tones that don’t overpower the sourness; good balance of herbs during the sip and swallow. Delightful brew; my first taste of the infamous Fantome Brewery has not disappointed! Look forward to more of these. This is 8% ABV??? Much to smooth to be that potent, right?

(Bottle 75 cl) Beautiful dark golden beer with a nice head. Sweet and sour nose with notes of anise and several other undisclosed spices. A lovely and very complex brew. 100401

07.21.05 750ml bottle. Clouded golden pour bejeweled with specks of sediment, yeast. Ample andsticky white head leaves spotty lace. Musty aroma, basement, dry grass, lemon zest, mint, rice wine vinegar, white-tart berries. Flavor is brash lemongrass, raw greens, bitter, citric. This is the good stuff. Finish is perfectly quenching, dry as can be yet tart citrus and damp grass. More please!

Aroma of citrus (ornage peel) and a slight bit of sourness. Pours a dull, clearish yellow with a coating of foam. Taste is of spices, citrus, with a slight tang to it. Carbonation level is high, appropriate to style. Overall a wonderful offering from Fantome.

Pour is golden with a huge fluffy off white head...smell is horseblanket, citric...taste is rather bitter and sour...most interesting...mildly citric taste as well, but a strange orange/lemon rind bitterness...bizarre saison...like a saison/gueuze mixof some sort...is that brett? Also, subtracted points for watery texture...

Bottle, 750 mL: Cloudy light orange, big diminishing white hilly head. Aroma is filled with yeast (breads), light citrus (oranges, lemons)and outdoor barnyard. Flavor is tart citrus (exactly what I am looking for, lemons and green apples), mild spice and gueuze-like sourness in background. Lively, tickling, mouthfeel from splendid carbonation. Another good saison.
