Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle at Monk’s. Sorry, but the beer was "corked." Oxidized, corky, spoiled beer. After two sips, had to tell the barmaid to take it away. Will try again another time.

Very good tart acidity with a spicy pepper and fruits nose. Wild honey and cloves with rosemary and lemon cookies. Some orange zest and pralines initially giving way to a nice acidic lemon peel charcters with a caramel and roasr balance. Great appetizing finish.

Hazy, yellow-orange. Creamy, frothy 1/2" thick head. Aroma is bready, like sweet cakes, with some lemony and spicy accents. Flavor is smooth, sour, citric and spicy: lemons, honey, cloves, coriander, yeast and most predominantly pepper. Fruity orange and lemon esters. Chewy malts, but could use some residual sugar to keep it better balanced. Loses some carbonation near the end. Peppery finish with a clove edge. Thins out, leaving a slight sour statement for the aftertaste. Had this one with Leedamer cheese, and that made this tasting that much more enjoyable.

Bottle. Light amber in color. Decent white head. Lightly funky in aroma. Lighter bodied. Slightly sour and drying. To me not as adventuresome as other Fantomes I have tried.

Acidic aroma like lambic, only a little less noticeable. Cloudy golden colour, small head. Flavour is sweet with nice acidity and mild finish. Very refreshing.

Tried this again in the bottle. Even more impressive than on tap. I noticed more sweaty funky cheese in the aroma. The taste was also more tart and in your face with fresh summery citrus. On tap at the Maproom in Chicago. A foamy white head with a cloudy gold color. The aroma is apples and cider with a hint of clove. The taste is a dry cider with a little bite of black pepper. The finish is dry and very pleasurable. Another great one from Fantome. I tried this again in the bottle. Slightly more sour with some hay character. There was also some funky cheese. I definitely enjoyed this more on tap.

Tap maproom. Wow. That’s my first impression. Amazing aroma of fruit rollups. Flavor is a very nice fruity tart character with loads of complexity. Tart fruits, bread, nice. So much nice flavors. And no sense of alcohol at all! Bottle version, Old yellow label. Cork says 086/477044. This is different. not quite as good. The tap was cleaner and fresher. Perhaps age does things to this, I dunno. Anyway, deep copper-orange, no head, no light through it. Nose is horseblanket, sweet, sour, peaches and apricots. Taste is very subdued, orange juice, peaches. Alcohol. Actually, the alcohol is quite present in this bottle. A little thin on the palate as well. Perhaps past its prime. (9/3/7/3/15)
