HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 6, 2005 Bottle. The cork fell apart. It was before Dany switched to a better cork so this bottle must be from ‘01 or ‘02. Beautiful bright golden orange with great head and lacing. Sour horse hair and citrus in the nose. Sour horse blanket, lemon, and blue cheese flavors. Creamy in texture. Great with cheese. Very nice saison. Not meant for ageing but I glad I held on to it for a while. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium Mar 5, 2005 Nice orange-golden beer with fine puffy head. Refreshing argum aroma’s and touche of fine spices and sweet cakes. Taste is also refreshing and fresh-fruity, Hints of Pimm’s orange, cinamon, candy sugar, ripe stone fruits and butter cakes. Dry and at the same tine smooth fruity accents in the end. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Feb 20, 2005 Pours a golden orange hue with a thick, foamy white head. Aromas of oranges, cinnamon, spice and a little funk. Flavors of the same...with a little corriander, orange peel, and a finish to die for. Very similar to pizza ports spf 45, yet not nearly as tasty. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Feb 19, 2005 Updated: Mar 13, 2008Orange in color with a dense, rocky and consistently morphing head of white foam. Rustic and bursting nose with undeniable aromas of strawberry jam and rock candy along with hints of peach, nectarine and spice. I love how this version is fairly light on spice and instead, just loaded with fresh fruit flavors of all kinds, especially peaches and nectarines. Fairly dry, sweet, slighty tart and extremely complex. It’s hard to believe that after 12 other Fantome beers, the original is still my favorite. It’s incredible each time
2008. This beer is no longer good. smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA Feb 14, 2005 Bottle - dusty, spicy yeasty aroma. Beautiful. A faint, cloudy, pale gold. As white a head of tiny white bubbles (bizillions of them) as you’ll ever see. Tons of floaties and extremely effervescent. Fruity, yeasty, a touch of sourness. I’m not sure what I expected, but this is not it, but it is still amazing! Softly fizzy, almost creamy mouthfeel. This is a terrific beer! steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 18, 2005 duvel tulip / delicious! nose consists of sugary pears, fresh bread. hazy golden yellow body with some floaties, but a nice lingering sparkly white head says, "dip your nose in me." anyway, the palate is so smooth. it’s cremey, but not thick, and it’s a bit fizzy. i sense more in the flavor than in the aroma--more fruits, but of the tropical variety; spices, not hot like pepper, but it adds such a nice sense of zip. as it warms the palate becomes creamier and the flavor becomes more citric, lemony. complex, but all of it is so stitched well together; refreshing, and warming... this is quality, buddy! JCW (1262), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jan 16, 2005 Straw colored slightly hazy. Very little head. Aroma is sour, floral and like many of the Fantomes it has musty quality about it. Not overly sweet like some saisons. The bottle I’m drinking from is 3 or 4 years old and I can’t believe that aging it has hurt it one bit. Slight amount on the finish, balances the friutiness with the proper amount of tartiness to make this a vary enjoyable beer. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 14, 2005 750 ml bottle. Unlike most Fantomes, this one didn’t gush, nor did I have any trouble with the cork...nice not to have to work sometimes. It pours with a simply beautiful, bright mostly clear gold with just a hint of haze (much more at the bottom of the bottle) and fluffy diminishing snow-cap. The nose: spicy-sour, lemongrass, lime and dogwood, a touch of pepper and alcohol. The body: sour, peppery, very dry and sour to begin with but honey sweetness oozes in, peppery and earthy qualities remain to the finish. Quite rough to begin with, softens lovely and becomes almost creamy when warm...not the best from this brewery, but still excellent.
