This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2016 2015/08/23 - Pours a cloudy, orange-honey colour with a thin, fizzy white head that quickly dissipates. No lacing. Aroma is peppery yeast, bread, bubblegum, hay, honey, citrus and apricot. Taste is peppery yeast, white wine notes, apricot, hay, bread orange and mildly tart citrus. Mouthfeel is medium to full with slightly low carbonation and a mildly tart finish that starts juicy and ends drying. The flavor profile (especially the fruity notes) of this saison is really unique and delicious. I really enjoyed this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

75cl. Pours a dark orange color, medium carbo, small head. A: malts, yeast and white wine funk, corn, orange zest, hay, wheaty. Ok. T: yeasty fruity. Starts fruity with orange zest, wheats, some lemon. Develops a slightly citric, fruity bitter middle with peach notes, marzipan end, faint cheese hint. Tingles in the mouth a bit. Aftertaste relatively neutral, bit dry and bit fruity. Keeps on improving while drinking. Traditional Saison with fruity elements.

(750ml) In a La Chouffe tulip . Ok , well fuck me I either got a mundane bottle of this apparent variable saison, or I got a slight ’miss’ .. I have wanted to try this beer for a considerable time but its obscurity can be felt even in Belgium . I was disappointed , it lacked any real complexity or customary rural pungent notes i like in farmhouse beers . Light citrus nose , bugglegum , spice , a bit of skunk . Poured out glowing orange that morphed into dirty orange with a good creamy foam.... Quit tart , like bitter cherry , mild dirty orange , earthy mushroom dankness , lightly citric spice accents .suggested bready sweet notes in the backdrop. I was hoping for funk and rustic character and found only a very subtle dirty quality . Its a pleasant enough beer but a fucking let down in context .
