This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. This is a cloudy yellow-orange beer with spicy citrus and earthy flavours, floral, creamy vanilla and slight tart notes with a smooth zesty finish. Hides its strong ABV very well!

Bottle. Huge gusher. Got more on the counter than in the glass. Pours looking like apple cider. Hazy and filled with floaties. Nose is leather and barnyard funk. Taste adds peas and corn (seriously). Palate is a little syrupy. I have no clue what happened to this beer, but clearly some in intended science experiment has taken place. I look forward to rating a bottle of this that hasn't completely lost its mind.

UPDATED: APR 10, 2014 Bottle: Review from old-label batches. The few newer label batches I’ve had have been not up to par. Solid, cloudy yellow color with lots of chunky sediment & a small, white head that settles quickly to a thin film across the beer. Aroma is strange, complex, unique, & wonderful. Yeast, funk, cork, damp cellar, barnyard Brett, sweet strawberry, Pez candy, light Candi sugar, grass, herbal & floral notes, lemon zest, finishing orange peel, and plenty of other spices I can’t begin to identify. The taste is nearly as unique as the smell. Fruity strawberry, light tartness with a moderate sweetness, faint candy-like flavors, incredible funky cork, mushroom, horseblanket, herbal hops, grass, wet hay, light oak... I could go on for days. Bottle variation can be a bitch, but when it’s on... It’s ON.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2013 Hazy gold with a white head. Sherbet, spices, earthy - almost cheesey. Quite sweet with a light sour and bitter finish. Oily texture, light carbonation. Good saison.

Been looking forward to this a long time. Thanks mike88! Very farmy (that’s a word now), bready, yeasty, perfect for a saison. Fairly rich body as the alcohol is not low, but worth it. Enough hops, lightly funky but not like some people describe. Malts yeast and hops on perfect balance. Saison lovers will adore this, others won’t understand. I live it. (75cl bottle, from trade with Mike, many many thanks!)

@ Ølbutikken, Köpenhamn. Flaska. Frisk och torr, men för syrlig för min smak.

Bottle. Golden colour with a creamy white head with god duration and very nice lacework. Aroma if fruity, floral notes, cookies notes and slightly citrus hints. Flavor is mild sweet at the beginning, fruity and spice notes, slightly bittery at the final with notes of bretts. The final is fruity and moderate dry.

Hazy amber color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of yeast, funk, fruit/floral, & spice; Flavor of sweet malt, yeast, fruit/citrus, band-aid, and spice; Finish is dry and slightly tart/sour; High carbonation; Maybe the bottle was off - but this was just decent for me.
