4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Gr0ve (1756) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 24, 2011
750 ml bottle. Hazy light golden colour. Medium-sized white head that clings to the glass. Nice citrusy and floral saaz-like aroma. Fruity and citrusy flavour with notes of bitter oranges. Clementines. Nice funky yeast flavours. Very flavourful and really well balanced. A little on the sweet side perhaps, but this beer is very drinkable. Quite bitter for a saison. Lovely!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 t0rin0 (24) - La Verne, California, USA - AUG 24, 2011
Best of the Fantomes so far, also (luckily) the most available. Pours dark orange, hazy, tall white head, not much lacing or retention. Aroma is fruity, mostly oranges and peaches with a little pear. Also a bit funky. Flavor is much of the same with slightly more awesome-ness. Great beer overall.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 pushkinwow (739) - Ontario, CANADA - AUG 20, 2011
750ml bottle, 2009. Hazy orange/yellow with white head. Sweet, slight tang, orange, lemon zest, some farmhouse funk, grass, and some pollen. Unbelievable combination of sweet and sour on the palate, incredibly refreshing and light yet still medium bodied. Well carbonated, long funky finish. Wow what a great beer - I know that things change from bottle to bottle but this just encourages me to keep on getting this to find another gem...of course it could be like a heroine addict chasing their first high :(
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 kschep (1228) - DENMARK - AUG 6, 2011
Nose at first. Is heavy barn yard, gall, urinal cakes, then cardamom and acidic green apple, feel is broad, carb is heavy, taste is first sour, barn yard, fresh green apple, little alcohol, later very balanced bitterness
4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 KapitiCritique (312) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - AUG 5, 2011
AROMA: strawberries - very strong, coriander?, lemon, a little far yard accents - does not disappoint, can not figure it all out, very intriguing;
APPEARANCE: straw and strawberries, yellow and pink, minimal lacing and thin head, hazy, minimal head and lacing
TASTE: bitter, sour, sweet but right on the tip of the tongue;
PALATE: carbonated!, slightly oily, dry;
OVERALL: exceeds expectations, the sort of saison you want newbies to drink to understand the style. Call it a classic, a standard.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Habanero (1096) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK - AUG 5, 2011
Bottled. Pours hazy. pale orange with a short lasting, large, white head. Nose of yeast, caramel, spices and notes of citrus. Sour flavour with citrus and green apples and spicy notes. Medium bodied, creamy texture and average carbonation. Ends up tart and spicy. A freah, crisp and complex saison.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 laiti (1000) - Tampere, FINLAND - AUG 2, 2011
75 cl bottle, BBE 01/2013
Rather strong, bretta-like sourness in aroma with hints of spices. Flavour is also sour with brettanomyces, but it has also some citron-like tartness. Some fruits and spices also. I didn’t remember that this was sour, but then again it has been two years since I’ve had a bottle of this. And then again, I’ve heard that Fantôme bottles are not the same every time. Still, very good saison!
4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 scotchzi (285) - Florida, USA - JUL 24, 2011
Great froth foam head with a big nose. Smells like sweet oranges and moody hay. Taste is more sweet with a little tart. Kinda like pineapple juice with parsley and gym socks.
