COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - JAN 7, 2003
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2003 Absolutely beautiful mountainous, large bubbled white foam. Hazy peach juice liquid. Sherberty, airy, and slightly phenolic aroma, with lots moderate underlying charcter, including grass, leather, melon, hay, peach, and mango. Also a faint banana spice note. Effervescent mouthfeel; mixed flavors of mango and bread. Not much complexity. The clean finish displays bread, tropical fruit, and appetizing dryness. Overall, lacking a bit of the funkiness, which I love in the style, but this is packed with quality...and I love it!

Citrusy, grapefruit nose, cloudy orange color and a foamy, fizzy head. Pez-like chalky finish. Lactic and taste. Great balance and a full body. Mmmm...

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2003 peaches and apricot sour but light nose. Hazy orange, apple juice looking, with a little head. Flat carbonation. Nice sour grape taste, apples, pears. Spritzy and metallic. Fullmouth. Dry and chalkie finish.

A caliginous golden orange color on the pour, the beer is loaded with dross, some on the bottom; some suspended throughout the beer. Head is immature in size, the color bright white, the consistency creamy and the left over lace a thick and sticky sheet to coat the glass. I would say one of the sweetest bouquets of any beer I’ve sampled in years. Over ripe cantaloupe or cotton candy come to mind, malt underlies it all, a real treat for the olfactory senses, the front ambrosial, the top thick and sweet. Finish is sparsely carbonated, the hops apropos to the style, dry alcohol bitter lingering aftertaste and a satisfactory representative to the style. It is truly a shame that more “Saison’s” are not available here in the states, as I find them intriguing and quite tasty to boot. Ranks #455 on my current 1000 beer list.

Like a super-Sweet Tart. Pale tangerine color. Medium haze quickly fades. Very sour, with hints of fruit. Bold and interesting.

Damn green bottles. Started off skunked but after about 10 minutes of aerateing it dissapated (!?). Hazy straw and a lively rocky head that left islands of cream in the glass and swaths of sticky laceing on the sides. Doughy yeasts and lemon grass in the nose. Honeysuckle, honey, lavender, and faint gardinia in the mouth. Smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel, and a sweet finish. A man and his barn can be a beautiful thing.

Great flavors in this light saison. Mild citrus, some pear, and some yeast. I wonder if the different ratings are due to the presence of different things floating around during "barn." Hey! Can you get that cow outta here?!?
