This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

This is fantastic stuff. Some where in between a lambic and a saison. Smooth very drinkable, spicy, complex. Serving: Bottle

750 ml bottle from Lucky Baldwins. At an "ice breaker" with colleagues, so figured I’d go all ballin out of control and get a 2009 AleSmith Decadence to share with people. But they didn’t have that, so I thought, "oh yeah, Fantome roulette, let’s do this!" And it made for interesting conversation. That conversation mostly went like "This is like a marshmallow that got burnt to a crisp." Or "beef jerky. Sour beef jerky." Or "heh, this tastes like the farmhouse it was brewed at burned down, leaving only this beer in its wake." Or "liquid smoked gouda." And you know what, all of those descriptors have a place. It poured cloudy light amber. Initial aroma of funk, skunk, and regret. This was replaced by the smokiest fucking saison I’ve ever had -- bandaid mixed with pepper, feet, cheese, and lightly tart fruit. Also stale cotton candy hiding behind a layer of cobwebs. Taste was ... whatever, no point in going much further with this. You’ve got the drift. In the end, I didn’t hate it, but if it is indeed a "soild Belgian saison beer at its base," this one is very very far from home.

750ml bottle from Brewdog, BB Nov 2016. Vibrant orange, hazy, huge foamy off-white head. This was extremely foamy out of the bottle. Aroma is musty, copper, lemon, orange, pretty sweet and a bit syrupy. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is sweet, soft caramel, light wheat, some tinned fruit citrus, a touch of perfumey alcohol. I didn’t get any sour character really, but this must be a young beer. Nice stuff.

really dug this one, and would score it higher if i didnt lose half the bottle upon opening. Farmhouse to a tee, lightly skunked and also slightly sour, fruity, dry, yeasty, with a hint of hops. Dug it, but ended up paying a buck an ounce for what i was able to drink. wasn’t THAT good..."

Muddy golden. Dense and huge off-white head. Fine and complex aroma of European hops, with fresh grass and flower fields. Also a bit of spices in taste. High carbonation. Wonderfully balanced with high drinkability.

Bottle. Cloudy but vibrant orange colour with a large, foamy white head. The aroma has notes of lacto, fruitiness with apple, pineapple, apricots. The flavour is sweet initially with citrus, apple, and becomes more acidic with some peppery notes. Superb.

Corked 75 cl bottle @ home. Pours hazy golden with a lot of sediment and a white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are lemons, spices, and yeast - with a slightly dry finish.

The thickest body I’ve ever tasted in a beer, smoothie-like. Milky yellow with strange white head. The taste is rather nice, dry, bitter, hay, lemon.
