This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle. Slightly cloudy in the glass, in all the best (unfiltered) ways. Nice dense head, pours with a lot of carbonation, as would be expected. Surprising how much sweet, maltiness comes through, equally surprising how well this combines with the esters from the yeast. Slight sour flavor and aroma, but definitnely nothing very pronounced. Very tasty. Slightly oxidized - a little bit of chalkiness in the finish, but that’s probably just because this thing sat on a container ship the last 6 months of its existence. Tasty.

Surprised I never rated this. Bottle at Hiranoya. Strawberry, jam, yoghurt, bit of vomit/Parmesan. Lemon and basil. Great stuff. Bitterness. It’s got the lot.

ASPETTO: ambrato molto torbido, schiuma bianca, grossolana, poca e poco persistente. AROMA: acido, speziato, leggero fruttato. Intenso e che stimola l’appetito. GUSTO: lieve acidità, frutta gialla, tanto speziato, erbaceo, vinoso, leggerissimo maltato. Retrogusto di scorza di pane e un po’ amarognolo. Corpo medio/leggero, carbonizzazione bassa. Pulisce benissimo la bocca

Pours hazy orange from the bottle. No visible head. Looks like freshly squeezed melon juice. Aroma is fruity, lightly industrial. Taste is tart, sour, lightly bitter. Refreshing. A hint of spice. Decent stuff, even if not particularly nuanced.

Redelijke koolzuurprikkel.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2016 Slightly hazy deep yellow with lots of white head. Looks good. Lots of really yummi fresh aroma of herbs, lemon, ginger and banana etc. The taste is more sharp than I expected from the aroma. Light sweetness, lots of bitterness and lightly sour. High carbonation and dry finish. A really nice experience.

[backlog] 22-01-16 / bottle at home, bought in Belgium. Orange colour, a lot of foam. Well carbonated. Fizzy, slight sour. Citrus hay notes. I started rating my beers with Untappd and a few basic notes. Now I want to rate them on ratebeer. So my rating sometimes lack some information. Just ignore it, it is for my personal statistics.
