COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Lot NoC, no date on bottle but I suspecit is is quite old. After all the reviews, I am not that impressed. Meaty, brothy yeast autolosyis dominates the profile with a black pepper spice dominating the palate. It is not an easy beer to drink. It tastes like dirty sweaty gym socks in my mouth. It is really disjointed, the flavors are not coming together. I would take a Omegang Hennapin or Bison Farmhouse Ale to this beer any day.

Pours a hazy yellow with big frothy white head. Lemon, orange peel, straw and grass. Sherbetty sourness. Crisp, dry, peppery finish.

75 CL bottle from Roybeer, Milan. Pours hazy golden with a low white head that disappears quickly leaving some lacing on the glass. Aroma is rustic with malts, yeast and acidic funky notes. Taste is very good, floral and light fruity notes, some straw, some sweetness and an acidic yeasty note again. Lively carbonation. Excellent.

Cloudy straw yellow with nice white head. Aroma is orange, caramel, coriander, floral, pepper and banana. Slick palate. Aftertaste is zesty bittersweet, caramel and peppery finish. Overall: easy drinkable and fresh saison. Alcohol well hidden. Good craftsmanship.

This exploded out of the bottle, I advise you to open it over the sink. Saison yeast aroma, with hints of spice, the flavour is so complex, sweet, sour, spicy, dry. One of the best saisons I’ve had, this isn’t beer for all, this is beer for beer lovers. So fresh, you would never guess the 8% abv.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton, Manchester. Hazy gold looks with a generous frothy white head. Nose revealed lemon, grass, straw, spice and funk. Wonderful fruitiness unfolded in the flavour with lemon and green apple the main protagonists. Both sweet and sour, this was clean, smooth and oh so drinkable. ABV nowhere to be seen. Some bitterness emerged as affairs dried out towards the finish. Elegant and poised. The comparison to champagne in the description is certainly apt, this is a fantastic and unique beer that is well worthy of a Top 10 berth and also brings up my birth year rate (1973). Salut !

Cloudy orange body with a small, white head that reduces to a thin layer, good lacing. Strong aroma of yeast, spices and hints of barnyard. Strong flavour of yeast, spices (especially pepper in the long finish) and funky notes that are a bit more present than in the aroma. Light sweet taste, light acidic and very light sour and with a decent bitterness. Crisp and refreshing mouthfeel, very dry, mid-bodied and with a moderate carbonation. Very nice!

750ml bottle served in a chalice. A: Visual is not outstanding. Pours a light orange color with a medium to small bubbled white head. Head disapears quickly leaving no lacings. A lot of sendiments in the bottom of the bottle. The more you pour it, more cloudy it becomes S: Very fruity and spicy. Quite citrus. Notes of grains, apples and vanilla. Some flowery hops in the end T: Perfect mouth. First of all refreshing. I was expecting it to be much more sour, like a Lambic, but it’s not. It’s mild sour with an also discreet bitterness. Very spicy, indeed. Complex. Difficult to describe all the spicies. It’s herbal, peppery and, at the same time, fruity and citric. Notes of apples, sweet malts and a mild bitter hoppy end M: Light to medium body. Medium carbonation. Sour fruitiness as aftertaste O: High drinkability. My first Saison Ale, great surprise. Strongly recommend [ BA Review @ 3/25/2011 ]
