Commercial Description:
This is a delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Bottle: Kind of a musty sour fruit and yeast aroma. Pours a cloudy orangish-yellow with a small white head. Flavor is a light sour fruit with a lgith yeasty finish. Leaves sort of a citrusy aftertaste. Gets sweeter and yeastier as it warms. Thanks to wolhfs.

Very fruity, estery aroma. Belgian yeast, light citrus, bubblegum, barnyard. Light astringency. Hazy butterscotch amber, visible carbonation, with pillowy white lacing head. Medium bodied with heavy carbonation, but not overbearing. Starts with bit of bitter that’s immediately cancelled by fruity estery flavors, some citrus, some bubblegum. Light acidity, floral hops, good malt. Finish is more bitter, bit chalky, with some carbonic burn. After is neutral fruits, chalky, with medium bubblegum bitterness.

Sampled at Bocky Bash on 7-5-08. Zesty citrus lemon and yeasty aroma. Murky yellow with white head. Got a zesty sour cirus flavor like the aroma with a hint of spice.

Citrusy, grapefruit nose, cloudy orange color and a foamy, fizzy head. Pez-like chalky finish. Lactic and taste. Great balance and a full body. Mmmm...

Hazy golden colour with orange tints...truly a great looking beer. Appley and peachy smell with a touch of skunkyness in the smell, but pretty good as well. Taste is very carbonated, medium-bodied with a slight fruityness. Also a hop dryness followed by a metallic ting. The palate is very drying, especially on the roof of the mouth. Alcohol is very noticeable as well. Overall, a great beer to taste, especially if you can find it! I split the 75 cL bottle with good friend JonR888710, which I purchased at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.

750mL bottle, shared with artusory. Bright, honey-orange color; white head with good retention and fizzy lacing. Slightly tart citrus and candy sugar in the aroma; medium acidity and funk; mouthwatering. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: excellent lively tartness and toasty vanilla coming through; perfect levels of acidity and tart citrus, though lacking some depth; doughy, belgian sugar notes appear at mid-palate; just a great mouthfeel and perfect refreshing tartness and funk. Medium, tart citrus and oily fruit finish; excellent.

750 ml bottle corked and capped - Pours amber and cloudy with a short white head that faded quick. Aromas of apple, spice and yeast. Flavor is spice, yeast, some floral notes, a touch of vanilla, and a definite sour quality.. almost lambic like but not quite.. Some lemon, apple, and other fruits seem to add the sourness. Palate is spritzy for a beer that showed very little head and not much pop on the cork. Interesting

Extreme Beer Fest 2004: I like the style better now. 1.0 points higher. Old rating: Hazy orange color with a rapidly diminishing white fizzy head. Intense sweet barnyard aroma. Sour acidic taste. The points that I gave reflect it is a quality made brew of a style that I don't really like.
